Monuments and memorials

Notable arrests

Cole Sprouse, Jaime King, and possibly Jake Paul were arrested during the unrest. Should they be included under Notable arrests? Neegzistuoja (talk) 14:32, 7 June 2020 (UTC)

No, I removed Sprouse as WP:UNDUE weight. There was little coverage of him or his arrest, which would only be covered anyway due to Sprouse already being famous. Jimenez's arrest was well publicized and notable in itself to how it was carried out. Reywas92^Talk 20:30, 11 June 2020 (UTC)

Should Jimenez be moved into one of the other sections and the arrests section deleted? I can't see the value of a section with a single entry, and the use of the plural "arrests" is at present simply incorrect. – Arms & Hearts (talk) 20:32, 22 June 2020 (UTC)

Jimenez wasn't the only journalist arrested on live TV. (See George Floyd protests in Minneapolis–Saint Paul#Attacks on bystanders and reporter. It seems undue weight to give Jimenez an entire category to himself in the template. If the incident itself were more notable, it would have a standalone article just about that (e.g., Arrest of Omar Jimenez or something like that) that could be under Notable Incidents. Inclusion of 2020 boogaloo killings

@Featous: I saw your edit to the 2020 boogaloo killings page, which is a very useful addition of information IMO. However I'm not sure that warrants the killings being listed here—the deaths section of the template currently contains people who were killed in conflicts directly related to the protests, and one death of a person who was an emerging leader in the George Floyd protests. Although the perpetrators of the boogaloo killings used the protests as cover for their attacks, I feel like including it in the template implies that the law enforcement officers were killed during protest-related conflicts, which is not the case. Hello. It was initially reported as part of the protests, and explicitly attributed to the protests by some early media sources. The perpetrators were explicit in their desire to use the protests as a means for their desired political ends. And, conversely, I would imagine that some protesters would say that the rioters and looters were not representative of the protesters and those deaths don't don't fall under the protests either. We could actually define away all the items under Deaths. But, I've made my best argument, and will abide by any consensus. Cheers, Featous (talk) 20:17, 18 June 2020 (UTC)

I've removed the entry again for now until we get a proper community consensus on its inclusion in the template. I personally think it should stay off the template for the reasons GorillaWarfare just described. Love of Corey (talk) 00:44, 19 June 2020 (UTC)

• I would support inclusion if there were a section for "Right-wing violence" or similar. Indeed, the suspects intended, per FBI, to use the protest as a cover for the Oakland attack at the Federal Courthouse. I agree with leaving the link off of the template. The first killing did occur near protests, but all indications are that they were unaffiliated and just taking advantage of the chaos. The second killing was completely removed from the protests. gobonobo ^{+ c} 06:49, 19 June 2020 (UTC)

Protests of other Black American deaths

Hello Vinnylospo! Are the following really "George Floyd" protests? 2020 Minneapolis false rumors riot? Killing of Dolal Idd? Killing of Daunte Wright? They seem to be about rumors of a police shooting and protests about the killing of two other people by law enforcement. They are in the Template:Black Lives Matter. What is the reason to include them in the George Floyd template, too? Minnemeeples (talk) 13:00, 26 April 2021 (UTC)
