Template talk:Hidden services 2015
Figures
editPlease note, I have transcribed approximate figures from the slide on the presentation slide, they add up to just over 100%. I could not find the source data Deku-shrub (talk) 10:58, 20 June 2015 (UTC)
- I found that the academic put the slides up on his personal site here: https://ghowen.me/ccc/, however the slides PDF is down https://ghowen.me/ccc/Tor.pdf Deku-shrub (talk) 16:25, 20 June 2015 (UTC)

Context?
editThis needs some serious contextualization. No idea what the numbers mean without checking the video (also registering concern of another template being created that basically copies a single source verbatim). — Rhododendrites talk \\ 14:23, 20 June 2015 (UTC)
I recommend watching the video, just the few minutes around where I linked. The introduction to the sampling study https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-oTEoLB-ses&feature=youtu.be&t=1570:
We had a lot of questions when we first started this, no one really knew how many hidden services there were, it had been suggested to us there was a very high turn over of hidden services, we wanted to confirm whether that was true or not, and we also wanted to do this so [we could ask] what are the hidden services, how popular are they are etc etc.
So our estimate for 'how many hidden services there are' over the period of which we ran our study, this is our graph plotting our estimate for each of the individual days as to how many hidden services there were on that particular day.
[cuts to estimate graph averaging 45,000 hidden services daily average]
The bit with the categories: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-oTEoLB-ses&feature=youtu.be&t=1958:
Now the next things we wanted to do was to try and categorise sites so as I said earlier we crawled all the hidden services that we could and we classified them into different categories based on what the type of content was on the hidden service site. The first graph I have it the number of sites in each of the categories. So you can see down there at the bottom we've got lots of different categories, we've got drugs, market places etc along the bottom and the graph shows the percentage of hidden services that we crawled that fit into each of these categories.
I would obviously rather cite the written paper on the matter, but I only found this video which was chock full of info. It made a few headlines, specifically that child porn sites was by far the most popular category by numbers of requests. Deku-shrub (talk) 16:08, 20 June 2015 (UTC)
- Right, but my point is that that meaning needs to be visible in the chart. If we expect readers to watch the video or read the paper, we should just link to it in Further Reading. — Rhododendrites talk \\ 16:52, 20 June 2015 (UTC)
- I feel the particular slide warrants inclusion in various places due to strong use of categories and distributions not found elsewhere. Deku-shrub (talk) 17:30, 20 June 2015 (UTC)
