Three longer-term projects
edit- The map scales are missing.
- Where they are directly noted on the maps, they should be added to
|scale=
, preferably in a ratio format. (If 1 inch on the map is equal to 10 miles, for example, the ratio is 1:633,600 because 10 miles = 633,600 inches.) If the scale is approximate, prefix the scale with "c.". If the map lacks a scale, but it can be found in library catalog records, put the scale in brackets: [1:633,600]. If no scale can be found at all, use|scale=Scale not given
. We may need to modify the code to display different scale information if an inset is being cited.
- Where they are directly noted on the maps, they should be added to
- OCLC numbers should be located for the various maps and added. This will allow people to find paper copies of these maps in various libraries, or find additional information about the maps from catalog records.
- Search http://www.worldcat.org/ and copy over the number for each into
|oclc=
. If a specific map has two or three possible OCLC identifiers, use|id=
. (You can take a look at Template:Cite MDOT map/testcases for various examples of {{cite MDOT map}} with multiple identifiers listed, some because a single OCLC number applies to a range of years, and some because different libraries cataloged the same map with different numbers.){{oclc|1|2|3}}
- Search http://www.worldcat.org/ and copy over the number for each into
- If possible, we should be trying to link to copies of maps hosted online by reputable libraries or INDOT, nor something that looks more like a fansite.

- I can have 1 and 2 done today for the ones already in the template. 3 would be better if INDOT or the State Library would host on their own website, anything is better than nothing, this way someone can see the maps when used as a reference. Travisarch (talk) 11:47, 28 June 2016 (UTC)
- I updated with oclc when possible some of the years with multiple maps worldcat doesn't define which map is which by the month. I have added scale to most of them as well. Travisarch (talk) 18:07, 28 June 2016 (UTC)
Change to some of the titles and reasons why
edit- I have changed a few of the titles for maps that were already used. The following I think are most of them:
- The old 1929 became 1929-9 since the highway commission had two maps that year. (January and September) No article was using the old title but if I did miss one that using 1929 it was the September map.
- The old 1930 became 1930-9 since the highway commission had three maps that year. (January, August, and September) I changed all articles using the old title.
- The old 1932 became 1932-9 since the highway commission had two maps that year. (January and September) I changed all articles using the old title.
- The old 1989 became 1989RMN for Rand McNally the publisher and 1989 was reused for the INDOT's 1989 version. Only one article (SR 106) was using this map when I check, so I just changed it.
I think that was the only changes I made. Travisarch (talk) 17:03, 30 June 2016 (UTC)
