Modify template for Wikidata usage

edit

Hey there,
who could change templates so that they appear in the maintenance categories for Wikidata? (Category:Wikipedia categories tracking data not in Wikidata, Category:Wikipedia categories tracking data same as Wikidata)

{{#if:{}{}
|{{#if:{{{2|{}}}}|{{{2|{name}}}}|PAGENAMEBASE}} at the Internet Off-Broadway Database<includeonly>{{EditAtWikidata|pid=P4456|{{{1|{}}}}}}{{WikidataCheck|property=P4456|value={{{1|{}}}}|category=Internet Off-Broadway Database person ID}}</includeonly>
|<span class="error">Iobdb name template missing ID and not present in Wikidata.</span>
}}<noinclude>
Documentation
</noinclude>

Thanks for an answer or doing --2A02:560:410F:7E00:2162:1503:747D:756D (talk) 19:47, 6 January 2018 (UTC) Nobody did something --2A02:560:41BB:4300:19F4:FE25:8D5A:ED27 (talk) 16:03, 10 January 2018 (UTC)Reply

  Not done: please establish a consensus for this alteration before requesting template edits. Also, see this ArbCom motion. — JJMC89(T·C) 04:09, 11 January 2018 (UTC)Reply

Request for Comment for Updating for Wikidata

edit

I would like to request an rfc on whether to update the template to pull in Wikdiata information. I do that their was an ArbCom notice back in November of last year about establishing need for it. I would like to suggest that this template be updated to use and pull the Wikidata information, such as the identifier id for it. While some may say why rely on Wikidata, while we should not you need to realize that most of our infobox's pull stuff from Wikidata especially those on our other language versions of Wikipedia, as that is why that project was founded as a catalog of information to make putting information into templates and connecting pages across the language spectrum easier. We don't need to update the template to only pull information from Wikidata but of course allow still the usage of putting the identifier id in manually. Some may think that opens it up to cross project vandalism, well maybe so but Wikidata does have active editors and admins that maintain it. --Clarkcj12 (talk) 03:42, 29 August 2018 (UTC)Reply

 • Wikidata really doesn't have active anti-vandalism measures, which is a large part of the problem. Nevertheless, I think I can support, contingent upon there existing a way to manually override the Wikidata value and upon all articles which have currently defined a value being opted in to that override. That way, nothing that currently is correct will be be rendered incorrect by nonsense on Wikidata's end. Compassionate727 (T·C) 13:43, 11 September 2018 (UTC)Reply
 • How many templates do we have on the English Wikipedia that pull from Wikidata by default? I haven't been paying much attention to Wikidata arguments lately, but the last time I read through one, everyone seemed to be pretty firmly against this kind of thing. -165.234.252.11 (talk) 20:02, 13 September 2018 (UTC)Reply
 • Strong support - tracking IDs for things is what Wikidata does best. Even entries that otherwise have no data usually have at least one ID. ARR8 (talk) 14:27, 15 September 2018 (UTC)Reply
 • Strong oppose to anything linked with Wikidata. They have continually shown they are unable to handle vandalism and having such info outside of the purview of enwiki is not a good idea. Nihlus 04:34, 19 September 2018 (UTC)Reply

Https update

edit

The template needs to be updated as it forces http in the links, while the website uses the https protocol - https://www.iobdb.com/. Lapadite (talk) 16:16, 25 July 2024 (UTC)Reply

Not until they get their HTTPS certificate sorted. -- Michael Bednarek (talk) 03:16, 26 July 2024 (UTC)Reply
I was not aware there were issues with the certificate, the https url appears normal for me. Normally, when there's an issue the browser shows a certificate warning, but it doesn't for me. I know little of the technicalities behind this. Lapadite (talk) 04:50, 26 July 2024 (UTC)Reply
Those warnings show up here in Firefox and Chrome. -- Michael Bednarek (talk) 05:31, 26 July 2024 (UTC)Reply
