Next elections
editCan someone add a parameter that would put "Next" before the party name for use after an election has become necessary but before a date has been set? The year is already optional, so all it would require is adding an optional "Next" before the party name in the title area. -Rrius (talk) 23:14, 22 August 2011 (UTC)
- Well, actually the year shouldn't be optional, but it was necessary to remove it when the year of the BQ and Liberal elections were unknown. How about having the template add the "Next" only when the year is omitted? 117Avenue (talk) 03:37, 23 August 2011 (UTC)
- I didn't even think of that. I'd say do whatever is easiest. -Rrius (talk) 05:39, 23 August 2011 (UTC)
- Done. 117Avenue (talk) 23:33, 23 August 2011 (UTC)

Need for another template?
editI doubt that this template should prevail over Infobox Election. It seems to be working fine for other countries:
- Labour Party (UK) leadership election, 2010
- Liberal Democrats leadership election, 2007
- Republican Party (United States) presidential primaries, 2008

- Yes, this was designed for Canadian parties. It probably shouldn't be at this name, but I moved it twice already, and didn't want to admit that I got it wrong again. 117Avenue (talk) 20:10, 2 October 2011 (UTC)
- I don't really mind the name itself, but rather the usage of the template itself. I appreciate your time in making a new template, but I think it gives significantly less information about the candidates and more detailed information. I think the 'election' one gives a much clearer summary of an election and is better illustrated. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Bert Macklin (talk • contribs) 20:14, 4 October 2011 (UTC)
- I agree. We should phase out this template and switch to Infobox Election for the Next New Democratic Party leadership election and Conservative Party of Canada leadership election, 2017.--Jay942942 (talk) 23:42, 30 April 2016 (UTC)
RfC on phasing out this infobox
editThere is insufficient discussion here to determine whether Template:Infobox Canadian leadership election should be phased out in favor of Template:Infobox election. Jay942942 (talk · contribs), I recommend opening a new discussion at Wikipedia:Templates for discussion which is a more suitable forum than RfC. Cunard (talk) 22:27, 3 July 2016 (UTC)

Should this infobox be phased out in favor of Template: Infobox Election? --Jay942942 (talk) 16:45, 26 May 2016 (UTC)
- Yeah, why? Ivanvector 🍁 (talk) 04:52, 3 June 2016 (UTC)
- The "why" part is obvious; consolidation! Similar templates get merged in Wikipedia all the times, so that the complexity is reduced.
- Yeah, why? Ivanvector 🍁 (talk) 04:52, 3 June 2016 (UTC)
- But what are the benefits and what are the caveats? Is a transparent transition possible?
- Best regards,

- Infobox Election allows for more detail, as the current infobox does not even note the names of candidates participating in the election and their respective results. Infobox election is used for similar races in other countries, such as British leadership elections and U.S. presidential primaries.--Jay942942 (talk) 03:07, 8 June 2016 (UTC)
- Comment (summoned by bot): Can anyone confirm whether all of the functions of this template are performed by Template: Infobox Election? Cordless Larry (talk) 16:13, 20 June 2016 (UTC)

New parameter request
editThe implementation of this template for the current NDP election made me realize there should be a new parameter. While most leaderships result from resignation, there are other reasons. It has been some time since I last did this kind of update, and I'm not sure of how to word one of the options, so I thought I'd just leave a request here. The new parameter should be an optional parameter that changes the "Resigning" in "Resigning leader" to "Deceased" or "Outgoing" (or something others prefer; again, I am not sure what word to use for the Mulcair situation). -Rrius (talk) 18:28, 31 August 2017 (UTC)
