Exclude sections not beeing used

edit

I would be very good if sections with no info filled in would not show up in the infobox. Looks rather info when information is missing. Also I think the infobox is a bit too big. Any comments about it? --Jonte-- 17:30, 10 October 2007 (UTC)Reply

Political position

edit

The idea to separate fiscal and social political positions is largely a US concept, and Indian political parties do not necessarily differentiate themselves along these lines. Thus it should be removed. --Soman (talk) 16:07, 1 January 2008 (UTC)Reply

I'll do a revamp of the template today, based on the two previous comments. The template might work a bit oddly for a while, but I'll go through all the pages and fix the infobox. --Soman (talk) 14:50, 13 January 2008 (UTC)Reply

Request for graphic representation of Party strength in Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha

edit

The template for political parties has a good graphical representation of numbers that a party holds in the equivalents of India's Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha. Can a similar indicator be added to this template specifically for Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha? Prad2609 (talk) 05:48, 16 March 2012 (UTC)Reply

State seats

edit

I think we need to have a discussion here over including state seats, given the recent edit-war. There is merit to both sides of the argument, but I personally would oppose inclusion, simply because it is a) far too variable a number, and b) not a particularly useful metric of how a party is doing nationally. I have done a fair bit of reading about south-Asian political parties, and none of the sources I know of cite it as a meaningful figure. Other folks' thoughts are welcomed. Vanamonde93 (talk) 17:23, 12 July 2016 (UTC)Reply

I agree. Beyond those issues, I want to point out that numerical data in infoboxes is getting very difficult to maintain. People often come and make edits without any edit summaries or citations. Only a few people know how to verify them. The state seats, which will have to be computed by us from raw data somewhere, will be even harder to maintain. We do not want to go down this route. -- Kautilya3 (talk) 20:43, 12 July 2016 (UTC)Reply

SpacemanSpiff, The IP continues to edit war without participating in the discussion. Shouldn't the template be semi-protected? -- Kautilya3 (talk) 10:13, 6 August 2016 (UTC)Reply

@Kautilya3: You might want to request semi-protection at WP:RPP because it seems like the same person using different IPs to make this edit. -- Marchjuly (talk) 10:28, 7 August 2016 (UTC)Reply
Marchjuly, I requested page protection a few hours earlier. The request has yet to be acted upon. Regards, Vanamonde (talk) 11:52, 7 August 2016 (UTC)Reply

loksabha_seats

edit

Is the loksabha_seats parameter supposed to reflect the number of Lok Sabha seats at the time of the election or is it supposed to fluctuate as seats become vacant/refilled during a parliamentary term. I ask because there are repeated changes and clarifications at Aam Aadmi Party as people attempt to deal with the latter (always unsourced). - Sitush (talk) 02:36, 1 September 2016 (UTC)Reply

Sitush: I have always treated this as a fluctuating number, but have based it off of the official Lok Sabha website, which is slow but ultimately reliable for the party-wise breakdown. Ditto Rajya Sabha. In my experience drive-by voters change this number frequently, but about half of them have it right, and it's easy to check. this link is the one used at Bharatiya Janata Party. Vanamonde (talk) 03:28, 1 September 2016 (UTC)Reply
So, it is less an indicator of electoral success, which is a "snapshot" situation, than of parliamentary influence? But influence is not dependent on numbers, per se, as small parties can often wield extraordinary power because of the need to get them on-side in a coalition.
I'm clueless about templates but wouldn't it be great if there was a way to amend the "total" part of this parameter centrally! One edit and all articles would update. The edit would have to be requested, which would limit some of the drive-by errors. - Sitush (talk) 03:37, 1 September 2016 (UTC)Reply
Yes, I've tended to see it that way. The articles I've edited have had electoral results separately within the body to give a "snapshot" of electoral success: perhaps the Aam Aadmi party is too new a phenomenon for that to be worthwhile yet. Updating it centrally might certainly help, but I don't have the technical chops for this...it was adapted from a more generic template, I think, which is why the denominator is not nailed down. symbol

edit

|symbol= does not have normal image processing - the file must be specified with [[File:]] syntax. I was wondering why Amma Makkal Munnetra Kazhagam wasn't in Category:Pages using deprecated image syntax. Frietjes? MB 20:37, 18 May 2019 (UTC)Reply

MB this is just a front-end for {{infobox political party}} and in {{infobox political party}}, the font-size styling for that entry is increased to 150%, which makes me think that some articles are using plain-text symbols (e.g., letters). to add Module:InfoboxImage processing, we would either need to (a) check all the transclusions to make sure they were all using File/Image syntax of some kind, or (b) create a new parameter like |symbol_image= to make sure we don't break any existing uses. Frietjes (talk) 12:36, 19 May 2019 (UTC)Reply
Frietjes, OK, I was just pointing out something that looked like it could be improved. I know you have plenty of things to do already. If you choose to work on this at some point and want me to go through the transclusions just let me know. Thanks. MB 15:04, 19 May 2019 (UTC)Reply

Former PMs and Candidates

edit

I have scrapped "former PMs and Candidates fields" from the infobox because no political parties does provide this list in the infobox. Even the main Template:Infobox political party does not have those fields. In a country's history there could be several PM's does that mean we have to provide entire list of former PM's further lengthening the infobox. Therefore I have removed those.--Aakanksha55 (talk) 14:11, 22 August 2019 (UTC)Reply

Logo size

edit

Using [[File:]] syntax for |logo= causes Category:Pages using infoboxes with thumbnail images but I see no other way to specify a size. Biju Janata Dal needs a larger logo. Frietjes? MB 18:39, 18 November 2019 (UTC)Reply

MB I have added |logo_upright= (see doc). Frietjes (talk) 19:15, 18 November 2019 (UTC)Reply

Add footnote in the template

edit

I tried to add a footnote within the Aam Aadmi Party and it wasn't possible. I wanted to make a footnote to the political position to replace the bracket, but it wasn't possible. I wanted to add a footnote similarly to how The Left (Germany) has it for example. It just makes the info-box far more clean and easy to read. ZlatanSweden10 (talk) 22:01, 10 January 2023 (UTC)Reply
