Edit request: add a "Trainer(s)" field
editSome boxers' trainers are themselves notable. It would be useful if this infobox had a field into which wikilinks to their articles could be inserted. Zazpot (talk) 01:05, 14 June 2018 (UTC)
Addition of Burial Place field
editThere is data available for multiple boxers on their resting place, for example Ben Caunt is buried in the Church of St Mary Magdalene, Hucknall, which even has its own wiki page. I'm not sure of the situation for other sports professions, but I think it might be appropriate to at least allow boxers' infoboxes the data on their resting place. Another plus would be that boxing is an older profession, with many historical practicers being buried in older churches, and some even featuring their own articles.JoshTilley (talk) 00:38, 26 December 2018 (UTC)
Edit request: Honorifics
editPlease add the parameters of |honorific_prefix=
and |honorific suffix=
to the template. The lack of these parameters requires editors to haphazardly find a method to incorporate any prefixes or suffixes into the infobox of an appropriate person (for example, see Anthony Joshua) ~ Fluffy89502 (talk) 04:24, 15 December 2020 (UTC)
"Statistics"
editIs there a way to hide or get rid of the label "Statistics" that appears in the box? Nationality and dates and locations of birth appear under the heading, but neither of them are statistics. 2A00:23C7:2B86:9800:50F5:ADFA:E981:296 (talk) 11:23, 18 November 2021 (UTC)
- Seconding this edit request. Please remove the redundant "Statistics" label. Mac Dreamstate (talk) 17:49, 5 March 2022 (UTC)
- @Mac Dreamstate: The proposal to wrap {{infobox person}} (below) fixes this problem (e.g., nationality, dates and locations of birth would no longer be Statistics). — hike395 (talk) 16:52, 19 November 2023 (UTC)
Edit request: new field for newspaper results
editA newspaper decision is an archaic result type no longer seen in the past century. We would like these results displayed as a new field below no contests=
, titled nws=
. The label should read "NWS". Mac Dreamstate (talk) 17:47, 5 March 2022 (UTC)
native name
editThis edit broke this citation because the infobox has:
| name = Vasiliy Lomachenko<br />{{small|{{lang|uk|Василь Ломаченко}}}}
This ought to be fixable by the addition of |native_name=
which would take, as a value, {{native name}}
. Then, something like this in the infobox code:
| above = {{{name|<includeonly>{{PAGENAMEBASE}}</includeonly>}}}{{#if:{{{native_name|}}}|<br />{{small|{{native name checker|{{{native_name|}}}}}}}}}
{{native name}}
renders like this:
{{native name|uk|Василь Ломаченко}}
→ Василь Ломаченко (Ukrainian)
{{native name checker}}
returns an error message when {{{native_name|}}}
does not include proper language markup (provided by {{native name}}
or {{lang}}
):
{{native name checker|Василь Ломаченко}}
→ Василь Ломаченко Error {{native name checker}}: parameter value is malformed (help)
I have hacked the ~/sandbox. You can see how it looks at Template:Infobox boxer/testcases#native name.
Nota bene: the citations at the ~/testcases example do not show an error because {{lang}}
does not categorize when used outside of mainspace; it is the category link that is breaking the citation at Vasiliy Lomachenko.
Wrap Template:Infobox person?
editOn my talk page, Neveselbert suggested having this template wrap {{infobox person}}. This would allow this template to accept all parameters accepted by {{infobox person}}.
I've implemented such a wrapping in the sandbox. If we change the template to be a wrapping, it would change the order of the fields in the infobox, as can be seen in the testcases. For example, you can see in the test infobox for Ricky Hatton that the generic person fields would come first, then the statistics for the boxer, then the boxing record. The real name, nickname, nationality, birth and death data would move to the generic person fields, instead of being boxing statistics. Parameters such as |native_name=
appear as they do in {{infobox person}} (see the Vasiliy Lomachenko test case).
The testcases have new examples at the bottom. For example, you can see I've implemented the infobox for Mike Tyson as a unified infobox. Spouses and children now show up in the generic person fields. I've implemented Tonya Harding with {{infobox boxer}} as a child infobox: there would be a different field order in this case, also.
What do editors think of this proposed change? — hike395 (talk) 11:12, 19 November 2023 (UTC)
- I very much like how birthplace appears top-most, where it belongs, above the boxing stats. Fully on board with these changes. Now I really really really wish the same logic could be implemented at {{Infobox officeholder}}, as I griped about at their talk page earlier in the year. Off-topic but why, in the case of Barack Obama, are his personal details all the way below the political stuff? If you have the patience, please see if you could address this via the correct channels. It's bugged the everlasting shit out of me for years. Mac Dreamstate (talk) 17:16, 19 November 2023 (UTC)
- Implemented --- other editors can still state their opinions. Please let me know if anyone sees anything anomalous. — hike395 (talk) 04:11, 22 November 2023 (UTC)
