Other beers
editThe 'other beers' section doesn't work the same way as the 'active beers' and 'seasonal beers' sections. Is there a reason for this? I'd like to change the template. Thetrick 23:45, 12 February 2007 (UTC)
- The "other_beers" section requires user defined headings and allows multiple subsections. Changing the template will break existing uses of the template. This is currently used with headings like "Limited-release beers" and a few others. Mike Dillon 00:04, 13 February 2007 (UTC)
- Can you point me to an example? TIA Thetrick 00:48, 13 February 2007 (UTC)
- Stone Brewing Company is an example. There are perhaps half a dozen to a dozen others. I don't recall exactly. Mike Dillon 00:58, 13 February 2007 (UTC)

More room for beer names
editI would like to see more room on the left side of the box for beer name and less for the link to beer type on the right. I don't want to make the upper part of the box change, however, since that section needs all the room on the right. Is there a way to redefine the division point of the box to give more left-hand room once the list of beers begins? Binksternet 20:11, 18 September 2007 (UTC)
Silly name?
editI find the header "Active beers" to be misleading. In what way are they active? Should this not be changed to something else, e. g. "Current beers" or "Non-seasonal beers" or whatever. TINYMARK 08:59, 22 January 2008 (UTC)
- "active" does sound a little odd (would beers no longer being produced be described as "inactive"?), but I guess "current" could be thought of as too immediate, i.e. overlapping with "seasonal". "non-seasonal" is pretty unwieldy, though, and it seems inappropriate to describe a general category as the opposite of a particular specialized category (it would be kinda like saying a car is a "non-truck"). I prefer "current", but "active" is probably ok... --Fru1tbat (talk) 15:10, 5 September 2008 (UTC)
- Core beers is the term brewers and publicans use to denote beers that are brewed all year round so why invent a new and confusing term. Many readers may think that this refers to live beers. They will know that it gets served up with active yeast still working away within it.
- Also, a lot of beer supplied to outlets do not fall neatly into the other categories.
- To encourage editors to make better use of this template it needs to be more clear cut and use established terminology. This will result in a more professional looking template.
- Core Beers
- Seasonal releases
- Series
- Special releases
- Occasional seasonal releases
- Occasional releases
- Limited releases
- Discontinued
- Everything else like 'collaborations' can go into 'Other' as they are quite rare.
- I still haven't worked out the true purpose of Tasting. I can't find a single instace of it being used, so maybe nobody else does either. Can some please enlighten me.--Aspro (talk) 16:14, 1 April 2014 (UTC)
website
editcould an entry be added for a link to the brewery's official website something like:
|other_beers =
| url = }}
Naufana : talk 23:33, 9 July 2008 (UTC)
- I was just about to post something similar. I'm amazed a url field hasn't been added already, actually. I've taken the liberty of adding it. --Fru1tbat (talk) 11:55, 5 September 2008 (UTC)
- ...and documenting it? Bazj (talk) 12:11, 5 September 2008 (UTC)
- Well, it shows up in the template page instance. I forgot about adding the field to the prototype... --Fru1tbat (talk) 12:39, 5 September 2008 (UTC)

Documentation errors
editThe documentation mentions a parameter name called "homepage", but in the template code it is called "URL". Also, the template code has a parameter named "coordinates" that is missing from the documentation. The former should be changed to one or the other, and a bot programmed to check for instances of the parameter name deprecated and change them to the promoted parameter name. The documentation should include a suggestion to use the {{URL}} template. The latter should be added to the documentation with a suggestion to use the {{coord}} template. -papageno (talk) 05:49, 3 September 2011 (UTC)
Not showing beer lists?
editSo, I looked at Yards Brewing Company and then Founders Brewing Company, and the beerboxes don't appear. Help? Lockesdonkey (talk) 03:36, 16 May 2013 (UTC)
Field "production"
editI believe the field "production" should be changed from displaying as "Barrels per year" to something more neutral like "Annual production volume". Most breweries quote their production volume in either beer barrels or hectolitres; the template should be generic enough that the editor can include a label. This also avoids confusion between beer barrels and barrels, which are different. I've used the convert template before, such as on the Samuel Adams (Boston Beer Company) page, where "{{convert|4.1|e6USbeerbbl|hL|lk=on}}" produces "4.1 million US beer barrels (4,800,000 hL)", and I think this is a better system than a field name that expects non-SI units.-Ich (talk) 17:56, 19 October 2015 (UTC)
Collapsible beer lists
editHas anyone given any thought to making the beer lists collapsible? In the process of working on Great Leap Brewing and adding more beers, I looked at some of the other articles that use this infobox and found the beer lists going deep into the article in some cases. And since the beer lists use a dedicated template, using {{collapse}} or the like just doesn't quite work. Daniel Case (talk) 05:17, 9 December 2016 (UTC)
embed ?

Mapframe maps?
edit{{Infobox building}} and {{Infobox shopping mall}} have both recently been updated to automatically show dynamic mapframe maps by default. I am proposing to similarly show such maps by default for this template, with the same optional parameters to adjust the size, frame center point, initial zoom level, and marker icon; and to similarly allow the mapframe map to be turned off using |mapframe=no
. See Template:Infobox building#Mapframe maps and Template talk:Infobox building#Change to the map parameter so Kartographer works for further information. (FYI: I'm making similar proposal for other buildings infobox templates) - Evad37 [talk] 15:35, 31 August 2018 (UTC)
- I'd support this change. Right now, the template is transcluded on 382 pages, so if it causes any problems, it'll be a manageable number of cases to fix.-Ich (talk) 09:40, 7 September 2018 (UTC)
- Done. See Schlenkerla for an example. - Evad37 [talk] 07:51, 9 September 2018 (UTC)
- @Evad37: Looks nice. How can I enable this on other pages? -Ich (talk) 14:04, 10 September 2018 (UTC)
- If you add coordinates to a page's Wikidata item, then the map should appear in the infobox (unless the
|mapframe=no
parameter is set) - Evad37 [talk] 10:13, 11 September 2018 (UTC)- @Evad37: Nifty! I enabled it on Rothaus. The Wikidata item needed "coordinate location", and not just "headquarters location" (which was attached to GPS coordinates) which was why I couldn't get it to work before. Is there a way to set the default zoom level? I am a fan of the way the mini maps of Germany look on city pages (Rostock) but figure that is a lot more work to embed pushpin maps into the brewery template.-Ich (talk) 14:22, 12 September 2018 (UTC)
Is there a way to set the default zoom level?
For individual articles, you can add the|mapframe-zoom=
parameter to the infobox, and set it to a number between 1 and 18 (higher is more zoomed in). The default zoom level when this parameter isn't set is currently 10, but that can be changed if another value would be more appropriate - Evad37 [talk] 01:36, 13 September 2018 (UTC)- @Evad37: I've been using it on a number of German breweries and I've had the best results with 5. I'm not sure if this will be the same for the US (distances are greater there) but it's well-suited to Germany (and I'd suppose much of Europe), and obviously it can be overridden where unsuitable. When I look at the articles, it's not that important to me to see where a brewery is inside of a city, but where it is in a region is more interesting. At least this speaks for 5 over 10 as default value. Thanks again for your time and help on this.-Ich (talk) 19:34, 12 November 2018 (UTC)

- @Evad37: Is it possible to pull coordinate data from "headquarters location" instead of "coordinate location" if the latter is empty? The folks at Wikidata are a good bit more particular than enwiki about what data goes where.-Ich (talk) 15:19, 16 September 2019 (UTC)
