"Guests" attribute?
LugRadio really squashes its hosts in, and some of them have only hosted the show for short lengths of time. What about adding a "guests" attrib which could be used to hold more notable guests? Chris Cunningham 10:39, 30 October 2007 (UTC)
License and copyright status
How about including a field to describe the copyright and license of the work. This would include all rights reserved and Creative Commons licenses. Mike Chelen (talk) 06:59, 1 June 2010 (UTC)
theme song/music/composer?
there should be a field for the opening (and closing) theme song, its composer(s) and maybe an "other" field as well, if there's music used during the podcast. maybe just one field titled "Music". i'm not sure. --Sensorsweep (talk) 15:23, 9 April 2013 (UTC)
RSS and Atom field removal
Hi. There's a proposal at Wikipedia talk:External links#Proposal to remove the RSS and Atom fields from infoboxes, that involves this template (and 2 others). Rationale and prior discussion is at that thread. Your input would be welcome and appreciated. Much thanks. -- Quiddity (talk) 20:24, 15 May 2010 (UTC)
- Ugh. No discussion here, or there, or updates here, or there. It went to archive 29 unclosed, and before any number of editors responded. What sort of consensus is that? That should have been a closed: no action. Further, for official websites which don't provide an obvious link to either RSS, Atom or iTunes feeds, isn't that the use case where the
|RSS=
parameter is sensible and not counter EL to be used? --Lexein (talk) 08:24, 3 December 2013 (UTC)- "RSS" and "Atom" fields should not be removed from the 3 infoboxes that use them, because:
- WP:ELOFFICIAL's principle of non-duplication does not hold for many cases where the RSS feed is not linked to by any page on the podcast website, the opposite case for video podcasts with many encodings conflicts with this (in this case such websites usually have an RSS list page).
- WP:ELNO#EL9 - "Links to any search results pages", RSS feeds are not dynamic searches
Xb2u7Zjzc32 (talk) 00:45, 16 June 2014 (UTC) - WP:CITECONSENSUS and WP:CITEVAR - "Because templates can be contentious, editors should not add citation templates, or change an article with a consistent citation format to another, without gaining consensus" Consensus was not obtained.

Use of Infobox Podcast for YouTube Channels
I am a relatively new Wikipedia Contributor and I have noticed that some Wikipedia pages about specific YouTube channels use Podcast Infoboxes (eg. Veritasium and SciShow) when other channels' wiki pages use YouTube Personality Infoboxes (especially when the page is about a person/group/YouTube celebrity, eg. Dude Perfect, Jordan Maron, and Kurzgesagt – In a Nutshell). It makes sense to use the YouTube Personality Infobox for channels that can be identified with a person or group of people. However, the Kurzgesagt page uses a Youtube Personality Infobox, even though it isn't specifically about a person/YouTuber; in contrast, the Veritasium page uses a Podcast Infobox. There seems to be inconsistency on which is used.
For wiki pages that do not use the Youtube Personality Infobox, the Podcast Infobox lacks the parameters that would be nice to include for a YouTube channel. Looking at the Jordan Maron page, the YouTube Information section in the YouTube Personality Infobox neatly contains the views/subscriber statistics for all five of his channels, but on the Veritasium wiki page, the statistics for the 3 channels are in the opening paragraph and do not look as neatly organised. The Podcast Infobox does not have parameters such as views, subscribers, date of statistics update, network, YouTube Play buttons, etc.
I think it would be best to add these parameters to the Podcast Infobox, or even better, perhaps create a new Infobox Template such as "Template: Infobox YouTube channel" or similar. This could allow for more consistency on YouTube channel wiki pages, as well as infoboxes with better organised statistics and YouTube-related information. --TheAnonymousNerd (talk) 23:26, 11 March 2017 (UTC)
what happened to producer credit?
Producer used to be an option apparently, as I copied this infobox from another page in use. There is no error in page preview when you add a "producer" credit. We have production, which I assumed is for production companies, and but producers should be for individual credits. They should be separate because for major podcasts, you have companies like Earwolf that produce them, and then additional production credits, just like with movies. —МандичкаYO 😜 00:35, 22 January 2019 (UTC)
- The fact that you've seen someone use a parameter does not mean it was ever part of the template. This template is a mess and it seems it was made as fork of another template based on the list of parameters it has. To your point - a
|production=
parameter should be used for production companies and should probably be called as such|production_company=
and a|producer=
parameter should be for the individuals who actually produce the program, not a company. --Gonnym (talk) 07:42, 22 January 2019 (UTC)- Thanks. But if it was never part of the template, doesn't it spit out a red error? For example, when you see religion and other things that have been removed from the infobox template. Anyway, not really important. I like the idea of separate production company and producer credits and can't imagine anyone would object. Thanks again. —МандичкаYO 😜 17:11, 22 January 2019 (UTC)
Format
Is there a consensus on the proper use of the |format=
parameter? There's no included description here that I'm aware of. Various articles with this template seem to use the parameter for different purposes. There's also confusion between |format=
and |audio_format=
params.
For some examples, Monday Morning Podcast uses |audio_format=
to list where the pod is available (iTunes, SoundCloud, etc.). Norm Macdonald Live uses |format=
to detail the show's availability in audio and video formats. The Last Podcast on the Left uses |audio_format=
for file format (MP3). Others use |format=
in place of genre.
My feeling is that |format=
should be used to distinguish between audio or video podcasts (or both), and |audio_format=
for file format. I don't think either should be used to list the show's genres or download locations. However, without consensus or documentation, I don't want to make large-scale changes. – Broccoli & Coffee (Oh hai) 19:00, 29 May 2019 (UTC)
Return RSS = to template
Return RSS = to template, since no one agreed with the deleter, indeed no one noticed, or gave consensus and podcasters deliberately obscure their feeds so that iTunes, etc. can account its popularity.
