I based this infobox on the Template:Infobox Broadcast originally written by User:Boisemedia for television stations. Obviously, some categories had to be tweaked for radio stations. There is currently no project associated with this template; could somebody assist me in starting one? (Alternatively, help me in associating this with an appropriate existing project.) A message about the possible merger of these infoboxes has been posted at Template_talk:Infobox Radio station. --Marknew 13:50, 24 July 2005 (UTC)
I'd like to suggest that we discuss the possible merger at Template talk:Infobox Radio station, as that's where the discussion has started. This may also involve the creation or modification of a WikiProject. -- SwissCelt 23:29, 7 August 2005 (UTC)
I don't believe a merge should be in order until there is a decent infobox replacement that is not so complicated and that doesn't hide important broadcasting information from the reader. The current proposed replacement is way to complicated and erraneous to work as a replacement. Leonard23 3:43 17 October 2005
- Unfortunately, there is no way that the two infoboxes can be merged unless some of the fields can be hidden; fields such as "class" and "call letters/call sign meaning" make no sense if they appear on a British radio station article, for instance. It may be that the two infoboxes should remain separate: one for stations using call signs/call letters; one for stations that do not. This comes with its own disadvantages however (changes applied to one infobox will not be applied to the other, even if it would make sense for these changes to be made). Ultimately, the pros and cons should be looked at and a decision be made. --Marknew 21:09, 17 October 2005 (UTC)
- Just re-read your post: would it be possible for you to clarify your statement that the new infobox "hides important broadcasting information from the reader" please? On my system at least, it appears that if the information is entered as a parameter, then the relevant field will show up in the infobox on that article - or do you mean something else? --Marknew 21:13, 17 October 2005 (UTC)
What I mean is the important FCC-required information for US radio stations such as class, effective radiated power (ERP), and city of license is hidden in the infobox. When the "edit this page" function is activated, it shows the important information, but the average reader of the website will be unaware of this. Leonard23 10:13, 18 October 2005 {UTC}
- Are you referring to the instance when editors view the infobox at Template:Infobox Radio Station, or when they view it on an article (such as KROQ or WHTA (FM))?
- If you are referring to the former, then I have already tried to explain on the template page that not all the fields will display until someone enters data in them. If for example, somebody fills in the class field of the "KROQ" article, then the class of the station will appear in the infobox. If it is not filled in, then no field appears in the infobox. An example of an article with all the fields filled in is WHTA (FM). KROQ does not have a completed "class" field, so it is not displayed. BBC Radio 1 does not need a class field - there is no concept of a "broadcasting class" in UK broadcasting legislation - so a class field is not displayed. --Marknew 15:56, 18 October 2005 (UTC)
I get what you are saying about WHTA (FM), but with all the fields filled the entire infobox with all the information doesn't appears. That's the problem with the infobox when it was used with WVEE (FM) because all the fields were filled, but that class, ERP, callsign meaning, website, and city of licensed information didn't appear. I apologise if I have missed something obvious, but I do not understand. I have looked at the edit history for WVEE (FM), and can see no problem. I include below the code used to generate both the old and new infoboxes as copied from the edit history of that page:
Every single bit of information on the first infobox is displayed in the second infobox - well, that's what I see, anyway.

Can you please explain what you see that I can't (or what you can't see that I can...)? Many thanks! --Marknew 19:41, 18 October 2005 (UTC)
*smacks head against wall* I have just checked the infobox with Internet Explorer, and yes - there appears to be a problem! Ok... continue working with Template:Infobox_radio for now! --Marknew 19:58, 18 October 2005 (UTC)
