Villages/Cities/Etc.
editActually, Scotsdale is ***NOT*** a village according to [1]. The other two are 'village class', but even as that site lists, they are all cities first and foremost. I'm removing Scotsdale from the "village" section now, since it is most _definitely_ not a village of any sort (again, according to the previously referenced page).
How about we add Cedar Hill Lakes and Parkdale to both lists? The Deviant (talk) 14:46, 12 June 2008 (UTC)
- Or, a better thought - how about just saying "Incorporated Cities" and "Incorporated Villages"? That would make a lot of sense to me, and give the reader the knowledge of both facts... Thoughts? The Deviant (talk) 15:02, 12 June 2008 (UTC)
- To me, including the word "Incorporated" before both "Cities" and "Villages" in the template heading is redundant, since there is an "Unincorporated communities" section, and since (generally speaking in the US) cities and villages are by definition incorporated.
- The list at http://www.jeffcomo.org/clerk/serv/inc.html refers to all of the places as "cities" in the left column, seemingly as a general term to describe any incorporated settlement; but in the right column, it uses more specific terms to identify various classes of "city": village, town, third-class city, fourth-class city. Scotsdale is listed as a "town", both on the county page and on the census FactFinder page.
- Perhaps the template needs to be adjusted to match these sources. Omnedon (talk) 15:36, 12 June 2008 (UTC)
- Good point - if the template is going to differentiate at all between town, village, class 3, 4, etc. there's no point in listing ANY more specific classification unless they ALL are listed... The Deviant (talk) 17:37, 12 June 2008 (UTC)
- I was initially incredulous that you were going by a website by some random Jeff guy until I looked at it :-) If you look at the Census Bureau's data for Scotsdale, it agrees that it was a town; but see the sixth entry in the CFD for 29 January 2008. §72.050 of the Missouri Revised Statutes appears to make towns of this size into villages. The county clerk's website is quite reliable, but state law is definitive, and it's been changed since 2000, when the Census was last performed and when the clerk's page was last updated.
