Is it correct to say that this line continues to Bolton? In terms of services, you have to change at Wigan Wallgate to go from Kirkby to Bolton... whereas you can go direct to Manchester.
As things stand, most Kirkby services from Victoria do run via Atherton; but there are a few which run via Bolton, e.g. the 06:00 from Victoria, see Table 82; so showing both possibilities is OK. Historically, the Bolton-Wigan route and the Wigan-Kirkby route were built at the same time by the same company - the Liverpool and Bury Railway; the direct line via Atherton followed later on. --Redrose64 (talk) 15:55, 8 June 2011 (UTC)Reply
Okey doke. I have made a few small changes to the template. I have added a note on "to Manchester" and tweaked the formating and linking.
