Named Reference

edit

This template makes the mistake of naming its references. The references cause an error because the template might be included more than once on the same page, or the the template may be included with another template which uses the same name. These conditions cause the reference to be multiply defined, which obscures the reference and generates an error. The page in question is Comparison of temples of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, though there may be other pages which have similar (or different) problems.

Generally, the best practice is to either not name references produced by template expansion, or to provide a parameter to the template which allows the name of the desired reference to be set at the including site. As is, the template is likely to break reference definitions by leaving either duplicate reference errors or undefined reference errors.

I have removed the hard-coded reference name from this template. Some other pages using the template which depend on that specific reference name, may need to be repaired. Note that the {{LDS Temple/Concepción Chile Temple}} also used the same reference name used in this template. --- Mikeblas (talk) 18:13, 8 October 2017 (UTC)Reply
