lb, lbm and lbf

The international standard symbol for the avoirdupois pound is lb, not lbm. The international standard symbol for the pound-force is lbf, not lb_F. In what sense does use of a non-standard symbol make for less ambiguity than use of a standard one? Dondervogel 2 (talk) 11:50, 13 December 2016 (UTC)
