Affiliates
editI am pretty sure these groups have no connection with the LTTE. When the refugee crisis was going on here in Canada, the Canadian Tamil Congress said they have no connection. Intoronto1125TalkContributions 15:03, 5 September 2011 (UTC)
- The GTF, BTF and CTC are based in countries in which the LTTE is banned and if they had any links/affiliations to the LTTE the governments in those countries would have taken action against them. They have taken action against the TRO WTM and UTO.--obi2canibetalk contr 10:47, 10 September 2011 (UTC)
- TGTE is not banned and post civil war.Lankancats (talk) 23:29, 2 May 2012 (UTC)
- TGTE was formed by prominent LTTE members living in exile. [1][2] Therefore is an affiliate of LTTE. ASTRONOMYINERTIA (TALK) 12:16, 5 May 2012 (UTC)
- TGTE,Tamil National Alliance etc are not banned Hence please do not add to LTTE template they can sue Wikipedia for doing so.They are legal organizations if part of LTTE they will be banned. However write TGTE was formed by prominent LTTE members living in exile in the article. 202.138.106.1 (talk) 13:54, 12 May 2012 (UTC)
- Echoing my earlier comment, the TGTE is based in the USA where the LTTE are still banned. If the TGTE had any links/affiliations to the LTTE the US authorities would have taken action against them. The fact that Rudrakumaran and others had connections to the LTTE in the past does not mean the TGTE is affiliated to the LTTE now. Karuna Amman and Pillaiyan were members of the LTTE. Does that mean the TMVP is an affiliate of the LTTE?--obi2canibetalk contr 15:06, 12 May 2012 (UTC)
- Several things I observed:
- Although the LTTE was banned in 32 countries, many of its prominent leaders (including Anton Balasingham, Rudrakumaran himself) lived freely in those countries. It was only those who were involved in criminal activites (ex: extortion, weapons purchasing etc.) were arrested and prosecuted. Therefore, I don't think, having not prosecuted is enough to conclude that the organization is not an affiliate of LTTE. ASTRONOMYINERTIA (TALK) 20:26, 12 May 2012 (UTC)

- There is no doubt that the many leading members of the TGTE had dealings with the LTTE when it was active. That does not mean they have links with the LTTE now nor that the TGTE is affiliated to the LTTE. The LTTE really doesn't exist any more, despite the GOSL using it as a scare tactic every so often. Affiliation suggests that there is a formal relationship between TGTE and LTTE. Moreover, it suggests that there may a financial relationship between the two. A number of organisations (TRO, White Pigeon) have been banned because they were raising money for the LTTE.
- The flags of the LTTE and Tamil Eelam are similar but not identical. Although the latter is based on the former, they are distinct. This a common mistake. The two flags you have provided links to are the flags of Tamil Eelam.--obi2canibetalk contr 13:37, 27 May 2012 (UTC)
- But the Flag of Tamil Eelam too has been issued by the LTTE, isn't it? Several sources show that the current Tamil Eelam flag was first raised at the Second National Heroes day on 27 Novermber 1990 by Prabhakaran himself. [7][8][9] If LTTE was the creator of it, and it was the organization which issued updates and usage instructions, what makes it not the flag of LTTE?
- However, since TGTE is essentially a post-war creation, and LTTE does not exist on the ground anymore, I think its not quite correct to call it an affiliate. So I'll leave it there. ASTRONOMYINERTIA (TALK) 07:12, 2 June 2012 (UTC)
Sahilal Sabaratnam incident
editI have removed the above incident from the Canadian Tamil Congress page because the Congress was nothing to do with his personal actions and involvements. There is no evidence or citation to support he was authorized by the Canadian Tamil Congress to execute it. The incident happened in 2006 and still the Congress is active and for its recent CTC Press Conference and Channel 4's "War Crimes Unpunished" screened at the Canadian Parliament was attended by two parliamentarians Rathika Sitsabaiesan and John McCallum. One of the citation used is from the Sri Lankan Government's Official Media - Sunday Observer. Please don't synthesis the issue with Canadian Tamil Congress. It is because of one Robert Hanssen, do you think entire FBI is an affiliate to the KGB?Sudar123 (talk) 02:34, 20 September 2012 (UTC)
