Image of Byron
editI have replaced the image of Byron on the grounds that it misrepresented his appearance. The picture was done by Queen Victoria's miniaturist, is five inches high and was based on some other image. The artist had plainly never seen the man, or if he had, didn't remember how he looked.
For all his curling locks and pouting mouth, Byron was a robust looking man, not a "girlish" one. His chin was strongly jutting, not receding (as in the miniature). His hair, from the time he was still a student, receded markedly on the temples; it didn't grow in thick curls over his temples. The present picture coincides with all the other representations of Byron by artists who drew or painted him from life.
