Remove mention of "administration" from template
editAs per the archived discussion "Simplify and refine naming of category classes", use of adjectives like "administration" should be avoided to describe categories because an "administration category" should like something only Wikipeida administrators should worry about. Template:Tracking category had the same problem where its text was saying "administrative tracking category". I fixed that after the discussion and nobody complained and it does seem like it has made things less confusing. Historically, the problematic wording was first introduced back on 12 April 2007 with this edit; prior the wording was calling it a maintenance category. I'm going to go ahead and change it here too by using the word "maintenance" only again. Please read the archive discussion and if you still notice any problem, explain it here. Many maintenance categories groups articles because of their content, such as unreferenced content or non-neutral-point-of-view content. Categories are supposed to group articles because of their topics. Therefore, please change "it groups articles by status rather than content." to "it groups articles by status rather than by subject." or "...than by topic." 208.95.51.115 (talk) 13:24, 28 February 2017 (UTC)

Template:Wikipedia category → Template:Maintenance category – Match actual content and purpose; all categories on Wikipedia are "Wikipedia categories", so the present name is unhelpful and non-mnemonic. — SMcCandlish ☏ ¢ >ʌⱷ҅ᴥⱷʌ< 10:46, 12 October 2017 (UTC)
- Renaming to the more general Template:Administration category would be better (Category:Wikipedia maintenance is below Category:Wikipedia administration). DexDor (talk) 20:21, 17 October 2017 (UTC)
- Implies use by/for administrators, and wouldn't match the content of the template or the names of the categories. — SMcCandlish ☏ ¢ >ʌⱷ҅ᴥⱷʌ< 01:31, 18 October 2017 (UTC)
- No, Category:Wikipedia administration isn't just for administrators - they're different things. DexDor (talk) 05:40, 18 October 2017 (UTC)

Parameter "template"
editTemplate:Category header has a parameter |template=
. Is there any particular reason why {{maintenance category}} doesn't support it? For example, Category:Categories for deletion passes |description=Pages are categorized here using {{Tlx|Cfd}}.
to {{maintenance category}}. Such notices could be more automated by supporting |template=
. Same can be said about {{Tracking category}}. For example, Category:All articles with links needing disambiguation has in its description The category is added automatically by using template {{Tl|Disambiguation needed}}.
. Unifying placement of links to templates in category banner could be useful. —andrybak (talk) 11:41, 9 May 2020 (UTC)
- I don't understand exactly what your goal is, but {{Unknown parameters category}} may be of interest as a category header template that does some special handling. – Jonesey95 (talk) 15:18, 9 May 2020 (UTC)
- Jonesey95, the goal is to understand why there isn't a parameter
|template=
in templates {{maintenance category}} and {{tracking category}}, which would provide a prominent unified message about the categorizing template in the category header. —andrybak (talk) 16:03, 9 May 2020 (UTC)

Please implement this edit (compare); it makes the link to the preferences page more specific to the appearance tab, referenced in the template. Thanks! EpicPupper (talk) 00:13, 3 February 2023 (UTC)

Template:Wikipedia category, which redirects here, is tagged as {{r from ambiguous term}}. That rcat states:
This is a redirect from an ambiguous page name to a page or list that disambiguates it.
Since {{maintenance category}} doesn't disambiguate anything, I think the rcat should be removed. jlwoodwa (talk) 19:04, 21 June 2024 (UTC)
