Allow for customization

edit

I don't know how this would work (as I'm not too well-versed in MediaWiki's code functionality), but I think it would be a good idea to change this template to allow for other parameters to be inserted into this template. As an example, right now, if you wanted to combine the data that maplink prefills and data from somewhere else (for example, Commons), you would need to code {{maplink|frame=yes|plain=yes|frame-align=center|frame-width=290|type=line|stroke-width=2|type2=line|from2=yadayada.map}}. However, it would seem to me that the maplink-road template could be used to remove most of the boilerplate code in the template, reducing the code necessary to {{maplink-road|type2=line|from2=yadayada.map}}. In addition, changing parameters should be achievable in the template, so changing the default width should be as easy as {{maplink-road|frame-width=?}}. If you know how to do this, but don't have the time to put it together, I'd be more than happy to make this happen if you link to documentation that could accomplish this.

Wrong code?

edit

I tried using the code in the parameters section to see what it would look like. I couldn't get it to work. I asked for help here, and got it from X201. However it appears that the code is either wrong or "some kind of communication failure" according to X201. In any event, somebody who knows what they're doing should take a good look at this.
