Setanta Shield

edit

With the introduction of this new competition, adding it is going to unbalance the aesthetic of this template. Does anyone want to volunteer a solution, or is it best to just ignore it? The Setanta Shield "ranks" higher than the FA Trophy, Vase and NLS Cup, technically, so personally I believe it does warrant being on there.

Is there a 'proper' name for the competition, without the sponsor's name? As all other competitions in the template use their normal name, without including the sponsor (i.e. Football League Trophy, not 'Johnstone's Paint Trophy'). CharlieT 19:22, 16 July 2007 (UTC)Reply
You're right of course, and I probably should have given it more consideration. As far as I'm aware, there is no other name, since all the sources seem to only ever use that name. That said, I'm not exactly an inside source, so I'm only going off hearsay on the Internet. I gather it is (at least approximately) the reincarnation of the "Football Conference Challenge Cup" but that only lasted for one season and was an utter shambles from what I can make out, so personally I'm expecting the Conference administrators to claim the two are different competitions to avoid tarring them with the same brush. Since the competition appears to have been created from an idea by the Conference sponsors Blue Square and with heavy involvement by Setanta my guess is that they haven't really given thought to what will happen when the sponsorship deal ends, and thus haven't considered a neutral name for the competition.
Still, if you want to, I guess it would make sense to use that name instead, at least until we get a better indication of what it's unsponsored name is. Good luck adding such a long name to the template, though...the whole template seems to be getting rather stuffed full to me anyhow, so perhaps it won't make much difference. I'll leave the decision in your capable hands anyway, though for what it's worth, I'd just leave it as is. Falastur2 22:16, 16 July 2007 (UTC)Reply
The article itself is named Setanta Shield, and I can't find a 'proper' name for the tournament anyway, so I'd say just leave it as it is.CharlieT 19:34, 19 July 2007 (UTC)Reply
In truth I named the article that, because that's what the web seems to be calling it, (and because I made the article). But as you say, it's very hard to find an official name for the competition, and the only one I found is highly suspect. So I'd agree with you - best just leaving it. Pink??

edit

Any reason why this template headings have gone from blue and orange to pink?  glennb28  t/ 13:27, 2 November 2007 (UTC)Reply

I noticed this too. At a guess, based on a brief look at 86.132.232.71's contributions, it's been colour-coded to match England's traditional red. That said, it's a rather...light...shade of red. I wasn't sure what to make of it, so I didn't revert it. I was kind of hoping a discussion like this would happen, so I could find out whether it was intentional, and whether it should be kept. I think that it is a good idea for red, but it is too pink at the moment:      FFCBDB .
I suggest changing to a colour something like

Masters Football and Others section

edit

Seeing as Sky Sports are showing the Masters Football on a more regular basis, and with ESPN showing a Womens Super League game from 2011, surely now is a good time to add a others section to this template to list said other minor but recognised events (such as the Masters,Womens and any other Football related info which is deemed useful or interesting —Preceding unsigned comment added by 88.104.0.116 (talk) 21:07, 5 September 2010 (UTC)Reply
