Modern
editSome of these vehicles don't appear to be all that modern, such as the VXB, which is currently being replaced by the VAB. What is the going definition for "modern"??Tmaull 17:46, 1 September 2007 (UTC)
Added
editI added a few more vehicles that I believe are to be considered modern wheeled APCs and IFVs.--Lan Di (talk) 20:59, 7 April 2008 (UTC)
AFV navigation templates
editThere's a discussion about AFV navigation templates at WT:AFV#Navigation templates. Topics include style, and the organization of post-WWII templates. Please discuss there. —Michael Z. 2008-08-28 00:09 z
Possible removes
editThere are a couple vehicles in this navbox that are not really IFVs, but more cargo trucks. For example, the Logistics Vehicle System has a trailer module that can be fitted as a troop transport, but it's incredibly rare. bahamut0013♠♣ 17:10, 27 October 2008 (UTC)
Y x Z
editThis box is categorised into 4 x 4, 6 x 6 etc. this could do with some explanation. Some of the vehicles categorised under these sections don't have enough wheels to be in their respective categories.
Include tracked vehicles?
editIs there any particular reason to exclude tracked APCs and IFVs? There does not currently seem to be a template for tracked APC/IFVs, and I think they could be included in this template. MKFI (talk) 17:06, 17 January 2011 (UTC)
- Not as far as I can see, though I'd rather see this template split into two separate templates if tracked vehicles are going to be included as this one is already quite large. One for tracked, one for wheeled. - Jonathon A H (talk) 08:52, 18 January 2011 (UTC)
Listing red linked articles
editI've removed two articles from this template that we're deleted and are now red links per the instructions at Wikipedia:Templates with red links. Both are listed at List of modern armoured fighting vehicles and List of armoured fighting vehicles by country. There are over 20 red linked IFV/APC articles that could be added to this template from these lists alone, should we want them here. I've no objections to adding them back when and if articles for them are written. Gobonobo T C 05:01, 11 December 2011 (UTC)
Clean up
editI began to clean up this template. There are a lot of things listed in this that are neither a IFV (armored, with turret and at least 20mm auto-cannon) nor APCs (armored, armed). Also there are some old vehicles (introduction over 50 years ago), prototypes that were never adopted and non-military protected vehicles in this list. Also protected trucks, protected jeeps and various armored cars, tank destroyers etc. are in this list, but should not be. Furthermore there are duplicate entries for the same system (for the 8x8 and 6x6 variant, which both lead to the same article). noclador (talk) 21:27, 2 April 2013 (UTC)
Discussion at WikiProject Military history
editThere is a discussion about this template at Wikipedia_talk:WikiProject_Military_history#Template_about_Modern_IFV_and_APC. noclador (talk) 01:36, 30 April 2013 (UTC)
Armored Fighting vehicles
editThere is a difference between:
- Infantry fighting vehicle
- Armoured personnel carrier
- Mortar carrier
- Infantry mobility vehicle
- Mine-resistant, ambush protected vehicle
- Tank destroyer
- Armored car
- Reconnaissance vehicle
- Light Armoured Patrol Vehicle
and only the first two of these belong to the template. noclador (talk) 12:30, 1 May 2013 (UTC)
