The template is updated when Stats NZ releases their annual subnational population estimates, which is usually around late October (the last release was on 22 October 2019). There is another template, {{data New Zealand}}, which uses the same calculation methods as Stats NZ's population clock and, therefore, is more up-to-date.Lcmortensen (mailbox) 01:05, 3 June 2020 (UTC)

Request update to 2023 census in Talk:List of cities in New_Zealand#Update to 2023 census

I am requesting this template be updated with data from the 2023 census, the updated 2023 content for List of cities in New Zealand#Urban areas by population can be found in Talk:List of cities in New Zealand#Update to 2023 census. I don't know how to update this template, so I am leaving this request here. I don't know whether here or Talk:List of cities in New Zealand#Update to 2023 census is the right place to put this request, but I am linking it on both pages since I don't know which of the talk pages will be seen by more editors.
