Ubykh was a separate branch of the Northwest Caucasian family
editUbykh wasn´t an Adyghe dialect. Besides, West Adyghe/West Circassian is a wikt:misnomer for the Adyghe language.89.173.36.108 (talk) 07:14, 31 July 2016 (UTC)
Invitation to a discussion that is relevant to this page
editI've reverted some recent edits to this page, and explained myself in here. The discussion concerns many articles, so I thought it would be a good idea to keep it central. I hereby invite everyone who is interested to join the discussion on Talk:Northwest Caucasian languages. Thank you

- @Vito Genovese: Someone has redirected the page and merged the box with a newer navbox including Northeast Caucasian and Kartvelian. While I agree with the idea of having a joint North Caucasian Languages navbox, Kartvelian is a completely separate language family and shouldn't be clumped together based on geographic grounds. That can be done for navboxes pertaining to ethnicity or geography, but not when it comes to language families. That seems arbitrary and misleading. DA1 (talk) 01:13, 30 March 2019 (UTC)
- Not to mention if you go by geography, you would have to add Armenian and Turkic languages as well. DA1 (talk) 10:25, 30 March 2019 (UTC)
- Since we already have Template:Languages of the Caucasus, I'd simply revert, @DA1:.

- Vito Genovese Then please do so. I think merging Northwest and Northeast into a single navbox would be a good idea too. Anyone tries to get geographic, we can point them to the above box you referenced. DA1 (talk) 15:14, 2 April 2019 (UTC)
- @DA1:: Well, I fail to see the benefit of merging two independent language families into a single navbox, but it can of course be discussed. I am afraid I am swamped nowadays, so I won't be able to take part in long discussions that usually come with reverts, which is why I refrain from reverting at this point. Let the record show, though, that I do support this action. Any particular reason why you don't want to do it yourself?

- @Vito Genovese: Okay I'll do it. 'North Caucasian' is a proposed language family as well, with its own WP page that can be linked, so it's not that left-field to do. DA1 (talk) 09:56, 3 April 2019 (UTC)

Requested move 2 April 2020
edit- The following is a closed discussion of a requested move. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section on the talk page. Editors desiring to contest the closing decision should consider a move review after discussing it on the closer's talk page. No further edits should be made to this discussion.
The result of the move request was: page moved by User:Anthony Appleyard. wbm1058 (talk) 21:18, 12 April 2020 (UTC)
Template:Northwest Caucasian languages → Template:North Caucasian languages – This article (NWCL) had previously been moved to Template: North Caucasian languages (NCL) and the Template: Northeast Caucasian languages (NECL) had also been redirected to it. That has since been moved again in a manner where the NCL article has lost it's edit history. Having three separate Templates for the same broader language family is redundant and unhelpful as a navbox. See existing and more established precedents such as Template:Semitic languages and Template:Turkic languages. They are not separated as sub-branches but rather all included into one navbox. The Semitic one is particularly long but it's helpful for navigation. DA1 (talk) 16:54, 2 April 2020 (UTC)

Speedy merge of the Northeast Caucasian languages navbox to here
editI'm going to redirect Template:Northeast Caucasian languages to this template using merge guidelines, although its contents have already been copied to here. I'm doing this because of User:DA1's explanation from the successful 2 April move request; since the last move, this template has been a combination of the Template:NECL and the old Template:NWCL, and so having Template:NECL is redundant and should be made into a redirect of this template (NCL).
From what I understand, the last move had to be done in order to fix some edit history issues from past move switches, even if what DA1 requested was technically not just a move but a merger of templates NECL and NWCL. I will update with a comment after I've completed the merge. — Neutral0814 (talk) 19:54, 7 September 2020 (UTC)
