Purpose
editWhy has this duplicate of {{Oceania topic}} been created?-gadfium 19:00, 17 February 2011 (UTC)
- This is not a duplicate of "Oceania topic". "Oceania topic" is a template generator that generates navboxes that affix country names to strings, such as Sport in Australia or Religion in Australia. "Oceanic topic" is also a template generator, but it affixes country adjectivals rather than country names, producing such strings as Australian literature and Australian cuisine. Having both template generators is necessary because some national concepts, such as sport and religion, more commonly take the form "Concept in/of country" while other national concepts, such as literature and cuisine, more commonly take the form "Adjectival concept". - Template:Oceanic topic → Template:Oceanian topic – revert undiscussed page move. This template is not about oceans, it is about Oceania, clearly not the expected subject of an "oceanic topic" template, very WP:ASTONISHing subject instead of expected one. Relisted. - Note that there already is a Template:Oceania and also Template:Oceania topic. Proper name for the later, I would imagine would be Template:Oceania topics (pl.), but it seems to overlap with the first one. How many are needed? Thanks, DA Sonnenfeld (talk) 15:02, 22 August 2013 (UTC)
- That option, "Oceania topics" is acceptable to me -- 76.65.128.222 (talk) 04:58, 23 August 2013 (UTC)
Oppose. Edit history shows page started as Template:Oceanic topic, was moved as uncontroversial, then flagged for discussion, and moved back. Topics appear not to be about Oceania, but coastal states of various continents, thus appropriately titled. ENeville (talk) 17:17, 29 August 2013 (UTC)- Comment I don't understand that comment. How is this about coastal states of various continents? Everything in this template is about Oceania, not various continents. They're Pacific Islands and Sahul, which is what Oceania is. It's still not oceanic topics. And this template started as "Oceanian topic" until user:Neelix moved it at 15:17, 24 February 2011 to "Oceanic topic", so I don't understand what you mean by started at "Oceanic", since it didn't. -- 76.65.128.222 (talk) 14:38, 30 August 2013 (UTC)
- Sorry, misread template format, plus was confused by recent versus years' old moves. I guess I was a bit thrown off by implication that two-year-old move was unresolved. ENeville (talk) 17:50, 30 August 2013 (UTC)

Hawaiian
edit@Narky Blert: added a disambiguation tag for the link to Hawaiian, presumably because that's a disambiguation page. However when this template is used in an article, the link is expanded. For example, in Oceanian literature, this template links to Hawaiian literature, which is correct. I think no disambiguation tag is needed.-22:00, 12 August 2017 (UTC)
