Criteria
editWhat is the criteria for listing or not listing a player in this template? Alaney2k 16:04, 18 September 2007 (UTC)
- Until preseason is over, we are listing everyone that ended the season on an NHL roster or anyone who is expected to make an NHL roster. Once all the roster cuts are over, all the templates should be as how the actual NHL roster is. Thricecube 18:44, 18 September 2007 (UTC)
Robitaille
editIsn't Robitaille a centre? His article lists him as a centre? Alaney2k (talk) 19:17, 14 January 2008 (UTC)
- He is capable of playing both center and wing. Right now, my sources tell me he is playing on the wing for the Sens. But if not, please change it. This is what I have from the Forecaster. His profile depicts him as both a C and LW, but the Lines chart shows him as a winger.
FORWARDS Left Wing D. Heatley A. Vermette R. Robitaille C. Schubert Center J. Spezza M. Fisher C. Kelly D. McAmmond Right Wing D. Alfredsson C. Neil P. Eaves (IR) S. Donovan C. Bass* B. McGrattan

Jason Williams
editThe Ottawa Senators confirmed that they have talked to Jason Williams, however, they have denied that they've signed him.
Too many players listed.
editThere are way too many players listed in the template. The template, I thought, was supposed to reflect the active 23-man roster. Why are 2008 draft picks and players on two-way deals (i.e. signed only to play for Binghamton) listed? The 39-player listed should easily be pared down by 12, if not more. Jc121383 (talk) 20:20, 4 September 2008 (UTC)
- EDIT: I see above that you ran into this problem a year ago Alaney. Why should it be different now? Jc121383 (talk) 20:22, 4 September 2008 (UTC)
- The list reflects what the Senators are listing. At this time of year there is no 23-man roster. Alaney2k (talk) 20:52, 4 September 2008 (UTC)
- I have pared it down to those who played NHL time last season. Alaney2k (talk) 21:10, 4 September 2008 (UTC)
- Pretty much the biggest reason why most of us turn a blind eye to the rosters during the summer, other than obvious changes. Because there is no roster at all during the summer. So technically no one should be listed. But for alot of reasons that isn't very acceptable to do so we usually go with what is on the team's website. Are all 39 listed on the website? Personally I don't care which way things are done. Rosters aren't set till game 1 really so I don't get too worked up about them. -Djsasso (talk) 21:15, 4 September 2008 (UTC)
Hiding players not listed on official roster
editI'm attempting to hide a handful of minor league players who are not currently listed on the official roster. To the best of my knowledge this is how we've decided to do it. These players can very easily been unhidden in the future if and when they actually make the team. Another editor is reverting my attempts to keep the roster accurate. Are we supposed to keep all players listed here who are simply under contract? I don't believe so. ChakaKongtalk 15:53, 19 July 2013 (UTC)
- You are just being stubborn. These are players that played during the last season with Ottawa. They are signed to Ottawa contracts. Hoffman was signed yesterday. As far as I can tell, you've only recently started editing on this page. Why should you just come here and take over? Alaney2k (talk) 16:10, 19 July 2013 (UTC)
No, I'm not simply "being stubborn", I'm being accurate. You sound as though you feel I'm not entitled to edit this page. A couple of points:
- I have not been attempting to hide Hoffman, so why are you so concerned about that particular player?
- The other players you are concerned about and who "played during the last season with Ottawa" are minor leaguers who played in Ottawa only for very short stints. They are unlikely to be in Ottawa come October as well. If they aren't currently listed on the official ottawasenators.com roster (and they aren't), they are not supposed to be listed here. You made the very same argument in the prior thread for God's sake! If anyone is being stubborn here it's you. ChakaKongtalk 16:34, 19 July 2013 (UTC)
- ? I wrote "I have pared it down to those who played NHL time last season." Why is that not acceptable to you? If you had edited this page as long as I have, you'd know that the Sens' roster page often omits or has wrong players on it. So, it's not complete. During the off-season, the NHL teams have a 50-man roster to fill or stay within by the time of training camp. That's in the CBA. They are not playing games, so a 23-man roster isn't the only criteria. I've basically listed players that have been noted on the Senators's web-site as being signed, or those who have been on Ottawa contracts that played last season in the NHL, free agent or not. It's more informative that simply copying the Sens' list. What you are doing is simply want to be the least informative of what is going on with the Senators' roster. Try to see that. Think about that. Alaney2k (talk) 17:12, 19 July 2013 (UTC)
- Sorry, I wasn't aware that this is your article. I'm sorry for "taking over". What you wrote earlier and what I was referring to was "The list reflects what the Senators are listing." Your words, and quite correct. So why are you now fighting me for attempting to list what the team currently lists, all the while accusing me of just "being stubborn"? The only official source we have to go by at this time of year is the official roster listed on the team's website. I'm sorry if you regard your opinion as something that trumps that source, but I'll stick to what the team says in this regard. Who cares if they're under contract? They're minor leaguers an you know it. Policy dictates that we go by the sources tell us, not what Alaney2k's personal opinion is. What you feel is "least informative" just happens to be in line with what our policy tells us to do. This is not your article and you cannot dictate who edits it. Look in the mirror before you accuse anyone else of "taking over". ChakaKongtalk 17:30, 19 July 2013 (UTC)
- I asked you to think about it. Guess not possible. Too bad. Alaney2k (talk) 17:34, 19 July 2013 (UTC)
- You asked me to consider forgetting policy and listing players who play in Binghamton. Too bad indeed. ChakaKongtalk 17:37, 19 July 2013 (UTC)
- Guess you live in black and white. If that's your attitude, you'll only get in arguments. Are you prepared to take care of this article as long as I have? Then I will leave it in your care, since you are so right. It's not worth the aggravation to argue over trivialities. Alaney2k (talk) 17:42, 19 July 2013 (UTC)
- You clearly feel that keeping players listed on the Ottawa roster who don't actually play in Ottawa is somehow more accurate; I feel that is a concern. You honestly do seem to think this is your article, based on what you're saying here. That's a no-no. This is a collaboratively edited template. ChakaKongtalk 17:54, 19 July 2013 (UTC)
- Hoffman was signed by Ottawa the other day. There was no notice that he was assigned to Binghamton. Same for the other players who are fa's. Right now, you'd say they are not technically on either Ottawa or Binghamton's "roster". But we still list them. Cowen is an RFA, so he's not on Ottawa's roster, yet Ottawa's web site lists him. So, we just try to deal rationally with the situation. Consult at WT:HOCKEY, the project lists free agents as a service to readers. And lots of times, we list players who are not on the team's web site. It's not just my idea, so get off this "my article" stuff. It reveals more about your desire to control the output than any kind of valid argument. Several of the players finished the season with Ottawa, as 'black aces', but did not play in games. The concept of 'official roster' is fluid. Alaney2k (talk) 18:25, 19 July 2013 (UTC)
- What do free agents have to do with the discussion at all? I was not attempting to hide free agents; I was attempting to hide the players who spent the vast majority of the past couple of seasons either in junior or minor leagues and not with the NHL Ottawa Senators and who are not listed on the Senators official roster. They historically have not played with the Ottawa Senators in any way that could be described as anything other than part-time injury replacements and that is, quite succinctly, why I was attempting to hide them. The players aren't being removed they are being temporarily hidden until their actual roster status can be determined; they can quickly and easily be unhidden if and when they make the team in October. Please stop the "your desire to control the output" nonsense. I'm not attempting to control anything, I'm simply attempting to edit this template for accuracy. The resistance I'm meeting is indeed telling. ChakaKongtalk 19:12, 19 July 2013 (UTC)

Tkachuk, missing from roster
editWhere's Brady Tkachuk? GoodDay (talk) 06:05, 28 September 2024 (UTC)
Restored him to roster. GoodDay (talk) 14:55, 28 September 2024 (UTC)
