Further information from the following webpage. The state government follow the directions and rules laid down by the central government through various acts like RTI act. http://delhigovt.nic.in/itpolicy.asp "Simultaneously, the government will also put on the internet information that ought to be in public domain." Means the information put on the internet by the government is in public domain unless stated as protected by copyright. Why only photos?

edit

I'm wondering why the PD-India template should make particular mention of photographs and give dates for that, while disregarding other PD material (which have different cut-off dates). The link to the copyright rules website details copyright for all material. IMO, we should remove special mention of photographs and could create a template specific to Indian photographs, if deemed necessary. Any suggestions? ImpuMozhi 01:21, 9 December 2006 (UTC)Reply

Wikipedia templates are almost always specific to graphic material, as text on Wikipedia is supposed to be original. We are working on templates for other materials, but on other projects: for example, copyright details about text are best kept at Wikisource (where the text copyright problems are...). I hope this answers your question.... Physchim62 (talk) 15:13, 9 December 2006 (UTC)Reply

Question

edit

For which photos can this template be used. Specifically, can I use this template to upload the following fotos under this template?

  • [1] - this is a photo of the old Mysore palace which got burnt down and was rebuilt. This photo should be nearly 100 years old, because I think the old palace burned around 1910 or something.
  • [2] - this is a photo of the new palace with the durbar in session. My educated guess is that this photo is also atleast 80 years old. The king looks like Nalvadi Krishnaraja Wodeyar to me. But then, one of the people on the left also looks to me like Mirza Ismail who was actually the Dewan under Jayachamarajendra Wodeyar. And then, another person on the same side and closer to the observer seems to be Henry Irwin himself who died in 1922. I could have got all these wrong, though.

Further, what template can I use for this one below,

  • [3] - this is a photograph of the architect taken somewhere in England(i presume) at his daughter's wedding(thats what the website says).

Thanks. Sarvagnya 02:12, 25 March 2007 (UTC)Reply

Is the work anonymous? See commons:Image:Younghusband-team-1904.jpg for an image I uploaded. It may qualify as PD-anonymous. =Nichalp «Talk»= 13:09, 25 March 2007 (UTC)Reply
My guess is that the work is anonymous. But how are we to verify that it is indeed anonymous? If the source doesnt 'attribute' the work to anybody, is it safe to assume that the work is anonymous? Sarvagnya 21:17, 25 March 2007 (UTC)Reply

Template is misleading

edit

The current wording of the template implies that files that are PD in India but not in the US might be acceptable on Wikipedia but not on Commons. This is wrong: while it is true that Commons insists that it must be PD in both countries, Wikipedia insists that it must be PD in the US. Anything that can't be transferred to Commons under these rules cannot be hosted here on Wikipedia either. Fut.Perf. 06:21, 28 May 2011 (UTC)Reply
