Does Cai Guo-Qiang qualify (?), I guess that's a criteria question. And should Terry Fox be listed here? Fox's was quite a performance, but did he or anyone connected to him call it an art piece, or did I skim his page too quickly? Thanks. Randy Kryn 16:39, 5 February 2017 (UTC)Reply

I have seen Cai Guo-Qiang's large scale gunpowder, firework and pigment performances that sometimes result in large drawings. He refers to them as performances, but they are also spectacles - on the scale of some of Survival Research Laboratories events. One of the performance events I witnessed was on the great mall of Washington DC. Historically, I suppose one might categorize him as Process art rather than Performance art. Re: Terry Fox - there is another Terry Fox (artist) who is the one the one that I should have listed in my earlier comment. Sorry about that - I didn't link the correct person. Comment - Work section includes multiple pieces by same artists

edit

The template's Work section features multiple pieces by the same artists. This contributes to bias of the genre. (This is a symptom of a larger issue, which I will not elaborate on at this time.) The also includes work by emerging artists who have only been working for a few years, and neglects work by artists who have been working for many decades. I'd like to edit this section, but because there has been discussion and some debate on the relevance of the template in general, am asking for a "temperature read" from the community. List of Performance artist in template

edit

There was a recent very long contribution to the performance artists listed in the template, that was edited down to reasonable scale. While there were some very good suggestions, to my mind, it's important to keep the template multicultural, short and balanced (in relation to the approaches to performance.)

In support of a new good faith enthusiastic suggestions editor, BevinKacon and the keen, experienced editorial skills of Randy Kryn, may I propose the creation of a list of Performance Artists page? I'd do it myself, but the school semester just began here in NYC, and I have my hands full for the next 14 weeks. Netherzone (talk) 00:18, 10 September 2018 (UTC)Reply

Netherzone, thank you for your compliment and your encouragement for the topic. There is already a List of performance artists page, a good start although for now it's just a list of names with no descriptors. Adding descriptors to all would be quite a task, but adding a few would improve the page. If a full-scale edit expansion doesn't occur, or a few editors tinker with it, maybe when school lets up you can suggest greatly expanding the page again. Thanks. Randy Kryn Great info for all interested. I agree it would be an improvement to add descriptors to the page you linked, (that I was not aware of - thanks for that.) It would be nice to find a group of perf-art editors to suggest their participation? Or is that considered solicitation in the WP guidelines? Your experience and ideas are appreciated in advance. My experience? Juggling kittens. I have no idea if it's called solicitation or not, my grasp of the rules is pedestrian, but if you know anyone who might have an interest in this I think they could be pinged. And I have no idea how many of the names listed in the Titanic iceberg-sized good faith edit I reverted are missing from the List of performance artists, those could be dug up and added to the list. To make the list mean something and navigable it maybe should eventually be divided up by country or continents or something (has any performance artist performed a named piece in Antarctica? Dibs). Lots of performance artists have died for their art, or maybe none, I don't know, but certainly a nice looking and informative list can be drafted. All it needs is a few editors to devote lots of time to it, which I won't promise to do (I seldom promise or commit to a project on Wikipedia, per procrastination).
