"Philippine barangay"

edit

@Howard the Duck and RioHondo: Is "Philippine" disambiguation really necessary? I mean, there are no barangays outside the Philippines. —hueman1 (talk contributions) 03:23, 16 March 2021 (UTC)Reply

I believe these articles use the naming convention at WP:NCELECT where all articles covering multiple elections to bodies or positions of the same type are named according to the year adjectival country name type election format. And it makes sense to me at least, because 1998 barangay elections look ambiguous or incomplete, (i.e, which barangays had an election in 1998?) compared to 1998 Philippine barangay elections where you know it was a nationwide elections for barangay officials. As much as possible, these barangay election articles should be included in Philippine local election articles, unless they were conducted separately for which separate articles may be warranted. Has there even been a barangay election conducted only in specific areas? That too would justify separate articles if ever using a title format like 1998 Cebu barangay election. See the difference? ;)--RioHondo (talk) 05:38, 16 March 2021 (UTC)Reply
@RioHondo: Thank you for your insights. I didn't think of it that way but now it makes sense to me. Sometimes, it's just hard to spot these guidelines and not all of them applies to all situations. I find it hard to justify things. —hueman1 (talk contributions) 06:11, 16 March 2021 (UTC)Reply
There were "special elections" after the actual election day in some barangays when election day per se was marred with violence. Howard the Duck (talk) 06:22, 2 November 2023 (UTC)Reply

Notability of sub-provincial cityhood plebiscites

edit

We have 2023 San Jose del Monte conversion plebiscite. Normally, for sub-provincial plebiscites, these are included in the article about the LGU itself, but here we are.

These are the other city-level plebiscites in history:

More to come later. There were several incorporation plebiscites, and more than a hundred barangay creation plebiscites. References [1], [2] Howard the Duck (talk) 06:49, 2 November 2023 (UTC)Reply

@Howard the Duck: AFAIK, the entire province of Bulacan was involved in the plebiscite, unlike the examples that you have listed above. So, technically, the 2023 San Jose del Monte status plebiscite wasn't just a sub-provincial plebiscite. That's something that sets it apart from the rest. As for the notability of other sub-provincial plebiscites, I'd say let's keep the status quo and create or keep articles for the outliers if there's enough coverage to warrant an article for them. A similar plebiscite is the Puerto Princesa plebiscite in 2007, where Puerto Princesa became a HUC. So we have two cases of such that we know of. Howard the Duck (talk) 18:53, 2 November 2023 (UTC)Reply
As for the aformentioned Puerto Princesa plebiscite, it was done on the same day as the plebiscite in Cebu to determine if Lapu-Lapu City will be an HUC as well. Would that be one article, or two? Howard the Duck (talk) 19:14, 2 November 2023 (UTC)Reply
