Does this template have to be so gigantic? Given how stubby so many of our articles on Hungarian prime ministers are, this thing is a monstrosity. john k 05:57, 28 June 2007 (UTC)Reply

How about now? I have removed the flags (they were too small anyway) and grouped a few short periods together. KissL 10:18, 28 June 2007 (UTC)Reply

I'd still argue for a 9-régime version without the flags, which is now saved in the history. That's because those régimes were quite distinct, even if short. It also adds clarity - for instance, whom were G. Károlyi & Pattantyús-Ábrahám opposing? Plus, there is a hide button, if you can't stand it. After all, if you think this is bad, just see Greece. Inclusion of seal on succession boxes / navbox

edit

(Copied from user talk page discussion for the record)

I think the seal of the prime minister belongs in the article. I added it, today, to the navbox for Hungarian prime ministers. I would go along with you that, with that addition there, it is not necessary in the succession box.

I would rather this were taken to the discussion page of the article. It is a relatively minor detail (we did translate the sodding article after all, from what was a pathetic stub, and is hardly good now) so you can imagine making small changes like this when it has been carefully considered beforehand, without an edit summary, can seem somewhat offhand.

Please continue at the talk page of th article. Si Trew (talk) 23:38, 14 January 2010 (UTC)Reply

I think aestheticswise is not too beautiful the marquetry of a seal into the succession box, moreover you do not find one like this in the Wikipedia. Of course you decide what you do finally. On the other hand the addition of the seal into the navbox is not bad idea. Furthermore I would like to congratulate to the two articles, more other politicians would need to expand at least like this (for example Széll, Khuen-Héderváry, Lukács or Wenckheim). Finally I am sorry for my English knowledge, but I speak this language only a little bit.--85.66.208.220 (talk) 15:26, 15 January 2010 (UTC)Reply
Hello there,
Thank you for your answer at my talk page. I agree with you these are probably not necessary if they are better in the succession box. We did check, and we are pretty sure this seal has been valid ever since 1848 (for example during the Communist era), but with it in the navigation box ({{HungarianPrimeMinisters}}) I do also think it is too much to have it in the succession box.
We were going to put it into all the Hungarian Prime Ministers' succession boxes but there are a lot of them, and it would have taken a lot of time to do. We mostly we have been concentrating around the 1848 Revolution and while we do broadly then try to improve biographical and geographical articles as well as the purely historical ones, we have to stop somewhere or we will never get it "finished". (I know, things are never finished, but at least "finished" as a reasonable first pass over this subject.)
Thank you for your kind commments about the translations, it is not brilliant but it is a start. User:Monkap does most of the translation so it is her who should get the thanks, really. We don't have time much to expand them beyond what is in the Hungarian Wikipédia, as often it means redrawing maps and so on to put English names for things, but we hope it is better than what went before.
Our general way of working when translating is, as faithfully as we can to make a full and accurate translation of the original article (including, within reason, images, layout and so on): from that point others can improve the article with confidence that they are working from a good starting point. So, I think it was right to add them and also, after discussion, I agree with you that it is right to remove them.
Don!t worry about your English, it is a lot better than my Hungarian! If anything I have said is unclear to you I will try to explain it better. I don't mind disagreeing, but there is no point disagreeing about a silly misunderstanding!
I've removed them from those two articles and will copy this discussion to {{HungarianPrimeMinisters}} talk page, so it stands as a history of this discussion. Is that OK?
