Template talk:Redirect-several

unnecessary appendage

edit

Why does this template automatically add "(disambiguation)" unlike every other redirect hatnote? I can see how it would be potentially clever, but it doesn't work when the disambiguation page is the primary topic (with no necessary parenthetical)! I'm not watching this page but please {{ping}} me if this changes, for purposes on class conflict. czar 17:07, 18 February 2019 (UTC)Reply

@Czar:I have added a new dab parameter, which can be set to off to disable auto-disambiguationing. WT79 (Speak to me | account info) 22:34, 2 June 2020 (UTC)Reply
@WT79 The Engineer, thanks! Should the next step be to change the default behavior and flip the parameter? czar 00:26, 3 June 2020 (UTC)Reply
@Czar:oppose flipping the default behaviour of the dab parameter; typing |dab=on takes almost as long as writing (disambiguation). The primary purpose of these templates is as shortcuts, and since the majority of pages using this template do link to dab pages from their hatnotes, it sort of defeats the purpose of having that feature in the template. This is not to say that I am heavily against the change, just that a consencus would be required first, before making this change. WT79 (Speak to me | account info) 06:46, 3 June 2020 (UTC)Reply
Only looking at 50 transclusions, right? So not a big list. This page obviously has little traffic so the consensus-building is me just asking the question. The most analogous example would probably be {{Redirect}}, which only generates the disambiguator when only one param is used, but that'll never happen in {{redirect-several}}. I think it's worth specifying the disambiguator when writing out the links. Either implementation would still need to grapple with WP:INTDAB. Anyway, unwatching this page now so will leave the call to you. (not watching, please {{ping}}) czar 07:17, 3 June 2020 (UTC)Reply

Similar to the section above, could this template please be amended to give an option to add non-disambiguation pages. See, for example, the manually-created hatnote at Unmanned aerial vehicle [1]. Shhhnotsoloud (talk) 13:49, 22 September 2019 (UTC)Reply

@Shhhnotsoloud: the {{edit COI}} is only to be used for COI purposes. Template is unprotected, so you should be able to edit it yourself. If you need help, don't use an {{edit protected}} template. {{SUBST:replyto|Can I Log In}}Copy and paste the code to reply(Talk) 20:37, 16 March 2020 (UTC)Reply

Sandbox

edit

@Steel1943: Is the current sandbox of this template used by anyone? I am creating a new, separate, sandbox at Template:Redirect-several/sandbox2, however I will merge the 2 sandboxes if no-one replies to this comment within a week. WT79 The Engineer (talk) 11:26, 18 May 2020 (UTC)Reply

  • @WT79 The Engineer: Honestly, I forgot I ever created this template. And the "me of now" would consider tagging this for {{Db-g7}} or nominating it for deletion if this template didn't have almost 50 transclusions ... since hatnote templates like this one which do not precisely specify what they are disambiguating and are ambiguous themselves (What does "several" refer to?) have been deleted or merged over the past few years. Steel1943 (talk) 14:24, 18 May 2020 (UTC)Reply
  • I have now merged the sandboxes, and merged into main template unfortunately I've scine found a bug... [see below] WT79 (Speak to me | account info) 22:41, 2 June 2020 (UTC)Reply

It's OK I fixed it I don't need help any more

edit

Please, I am experiencing difficulties with the link parameter. This seems to be only giving out a maximum of two pages, and I can't see why. Can anyone else spot where this bug is arising from? WT79 (Speak to me | account info) 22:20, 2 June 2020 (UTC)Reply

fixed. WT79 (Speak to me | account info) 11:46, 12 June 2020 (UTC)Reply

@WT79: thanks for your changes to improve this template. In the example With text parameter would you please change the example text= parameter from "from porridge oat brands" to "which are names of porridge brands" to match the following line.
