Anyone think it's worth changing "stations" to "infrastructure" and include present stations, supertram, M1 motorway, IRR etc? L.J.Skinnerwot|I did 15:41, 12 June 2007 (UTC)
Subcategories?
editThis template automagically adds its article to Category:Buildings and structures in Sheffield. In order to prevent this category from becoming an unwieldy long list of articles it would be useful to move articles into subcategories where possible, but the use of this template prevents that from working. Is it possible for the template to recognise when the article is already a member of the category through one of its subcategories, and not add it again? --VinceBowdren 00:40, 20 August 2007 (UTC)
- Better to just take the category out of here and manually add it where needed, IMO. I'll do that. Bryan Derksen (talk) 07:22, 24 November 2007 (UTC)
Coach and Horses Ground
editI have taken the liberty of removing this venue from the template as it isn't actually located inside Sheffield's boundaries, and the fact that Sheffield F.C. play there doesn't make it so! Jellyman (talk) 20:36, 21 June 2008 (UTC)
Structures
editHave created new section for the none buildings, as was looking for Tinsley viaduct to check if in list to add template to page, and realised it was a little unclear with several none buildings mixed in.
Would sports venues be better split in separate section to other venues ? ---BulldozerD11 (talk) 13:07, 12 August 2008 (UTC)
- Good idea. The problem though, with splitting music and sport lies in those venue which host both. Don Valley Stadium, whilst know for sport and the home of Rotherham United (for the next three-four seasons) and Sheffield Eagles, as well as being the largest athletics stadium in the country, also hosts major musical events, such as Red hot Chilli Peppers and The Rolling Stones. The Sheffield Arena, is maybe known more for music, with the big pop acts like Girls Aloud, Westlife and Boyzone gracing the stage as well as rock acts like Queen and Nickleback, but it is also the home of the Sheffield Steelers ice hockey, Sheffield Sharks basketball and hosts regular motorcross events. Bramall Lane and Hillsborough have both hosted rock concerts, although no one would doubt their primary use is sports, the the two cited examples (Arena in particular), as well as Ponds Forge etc cannot be deemed to have one primary use. I wanted to avoid putting the same building in two categories, which led to much wrangling over whether to put Ponds Forge in 'central' or 'entertainment', whether to create a church section (a separate template has since been created {{Churches in Sheffield}}. - True, several are multi use. It just appeared a bit 'messy' (for want of a better word) with some small venues mixed with the Area & Stadium etc. Thought Id start a debate rather than unilaterally changing that bit as it is a matter of opinion. How about a Venues section sub Split into Sport + Music/entertainment. As the "Arena" is the only true Multi-use one, most of the others it only occasionally they host concerts. - --BulldozerD11 (talk) 11:35, 13 August 2008 (UTC)
Size of the template
editBecause Sheffield has such a rich architectural history the template is huge, as such, I've added the default value collapsed so that the template shows hidden by default. It will still be present but won't impose itself in articles while still adding he possibility to browse from one building to another. Captain Scarlet and the Mysterons 17:36, 8 February 2009 (UTC)
