Template talk:Stn art lrnk
Usage notes
editThis template provides external links for railway station articles in Great Britain. The links are to the National Rail website's "live departure boards" and station information pages, and to Multimap for a map and aerial photograph.
The distinction between this template and {{stn art lnk}} is the scale of the map: this template links to an Ordnance Survey 1:50 000 "Landranger" map, and is more suited to stations in rural areas. For urban areas, a larger-scale street map is linked to by {{stn art lnk}}.
The first argument should be the station's National Rail code. The second argument should be its postcode. Both of these can be found in the alphabetical lists of UK railway stations, linked to from here:
Multimap
editI think that this shouldn't link directly to multimap for maps, but have a link to the coordinates of the station. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Bruce89 (talk • contribs) 14:38, 27 October 2006 (UTC)
- I've re-instated the multimap links - see Template talk:Stn art lnk – Tivedshambo (talk) 12:52, 11 January 2007 (UTC)
Train times
editThese are also being provided by Template:UK stations. --Rebroad 17:03, 8 January 2007 (UTC)
Proposed merge
editI'm going to propose that this template is merged into Stn art lnk. These two templates are exactly the same apart from the scale. If it is considered that the different scale is required, a more appropriate way would be an extra parameter passed to the template. Merging this into Stn art lnk will make it easier to maintain.
To give you an idea for the usage of these templates, Stn art lnk is used in about 1729 articles whereas this template is used in about 651 articles.
So the question is this, do we need two different scales and if so, do people agree that this would be better done using the one template with a parameter for the scale.
If the outcome of this discussion was in favour of the merger, this template should be changed to a redirect to Stn art lnk which could be changed to include the scale parameter if this is judged to be required. Once all uses of this template have been changed to Stn art lnk, this could be deleted. Adambro 19:47, 8 March 2007 (UTC)
- if you can code the template so it offers a choice, and your happy to do the changing work then OK by me. seams like a lot of hard work. In the longer term the map side of the template should be replaced by the co-ordinates system thingy, leaving just the timetable link (probably best incorporated into the station infobox). So I'm not really fussed either way. Pickle 13:36, 14 March 2007 (UTC)
- It might be worth leaving this and seeing what progress is made with the station infobox, already an improved way of linking to station information and departures has been developed. The station infobox might make these redundant. Adambro 18:00, 2 April 2007 (UTC)
