@Useddenim: I first noticed this diagram a few months ago. If this gets cleaned up, should it be kept in the current style (i.e. line colours + tunnels/bridges) or should it be simplified in some way? Jc86035 (talk) 09:56, 24 July 2019 (UTC)Reply
- Remove colours; keep infrastructure. Useddenim (talk) 12:13, 24 July 2019 (UTC)Reply
- @Useddenim and Jc86035: Sorry, my fault. Never got back to completing this. I should have worked on in it my sandbox before posting. @Mqst north: Do you want have a go at correcting? You're quite a wizard with these things and its definitely needed. Rangasyd (talk) 02:07, 5 May 2020 (UTC)Reply
- @Rangasyd: Useddenim worked on {{Sydney Trains City Circle/sandbox}} so you might be able to use that. It does need some work; notably, some of the curves are sharper than they need to be or don't connect exactly, and the four-track section will probably need new icon uploads and a redrawing. - Thanks for that, @Useddenim and Jc86035: Looking good. I especially like the track direction shown at Circular Quay. Yes, it does need some minor improvements; however, it's much better than what is there now. I'll leave it to you or others to make the adjustments that are beyond my technical abilities. I've added more light rail, with links to stations. A few questions come to mind:
- How will this diagram work once the Sydney Metro City & Southwest is complete?
- And should an airport icon (FLUGf) be added for the Airport Line at, or near, Central?
- What's the purpose of the arrow at Martin Place station?
- Finally, when is the right time to replace what's there; as it's incomplete?
- Many thanks, once again. Rangasyd (talk) 08:50, 5 May 2020 (UTC)Reply
- @Rangasyd: Just a note, Useddenim has been inactive since August 2019.
- I don't think there are "correct" answers for how to draw this diagram, especially considering its relatively large size – it'll depend on a bunch of factors, notably the availability of possible four-track parallel curve icons (they do exist but not for tunnels, what we have now is an approximation – they can be calculated systematically but I or someone else would need to do that and upload them) since otherwise the bottom half of the diagram will need to be completely redrawn using only straight tracks and 90° curves. The addition of the Metro line shouldn't be insurmountable but it can be omitted entirely in any case (there are no actual written guidelines for how to do this "properly"). However, my main concerns for now would be making sure that all the track segments are shown and connected in a logical way (no gaps, no angles, large-radius turns where possible).
- I don't think an airport icon would be appropriate in this context, though, since there's no airport there and the line serves a lot of other places.
- The arrow is there because the text isn't on the same row as the platforms, so it visually indicates that the text refers to those two platforms. I'm not really a fan of the pointer arrows but it's what we have, although a
POINTERf
(that is, with the arrow aligned to the middle of the icon) would at least be better in that position. Jc86035 (talk) 09:50, 5 May 2020 (UTC)Reply
- @Jc86035: OK. Thanks. I guess what I'm saying is that it's beyond my technical capacities to add value as it stands now. Should we just move it from Sandbox and replace the existing template. Or should someone else (you or ???) help to address the issues you've raised above? Mqst north is quite good at these things. But I've not had a bite from on this or another matter and was last active in September 2019. Rangasyd (talk) 10:54, 5 May 2020 (UTC)Reply
