Design
editI suggest another design: http://x-romix.narod.ru/Timezones.png X-romix (talk) 13:25, 7 June 2010 (UTC)
- BTW what about my new colored-steps design? Is it good? Incnis Mrsi (talk) 21:21, 7 June 2010 (UTC)
- We can suggest several options. Here are some variants of design:
- http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Central_European_Time X-romix (talk) 07:17, 8 June 2010 (UTC)
Variant: X-romix (talk) 07:40, 8 June 2010 (UTC)
- There are no explicit UTC offsets, nor links. Is it good? Incnis Mrsi (talk) 12:35, 10 June 2010 (UTC)
- We can define in the legend any historical timezone this case. I don't agree to show there abandoned timezones (Samara and Kamchatka).--Orange-kun (talk) 18:01, 24 July 2010 (UTC)
Colors
editAnd change colors (Moscow is not Brown): :-) http://x-romix.narod.ru/Timezones1.png X-romix (talk) 13:31, 7 June 2010 (UTC)
- Why change the colour of Moscow? What is wrong with brown? /Lokal_Profil 17:37, 7 June 2010 (UTC)
- Probably, an allusion on brown shirts ☺ Indeed, it is the red color (not brown and pink) usually associated with Moscow. To me, West Russia (Moscow) should be red (like this) and Magadan should be orange (like this). The color of Kaliningrad, may be, also should be changed to something darker (because it fills a small piece to be appeared likely on a white background), like this. So, we have:
Lokal Profil’s colors: | Ka | Mo | Ye | O | Kr | Ir | Ya | Vl | Ma |
X-romix’s colors: | Ka | Mo | Ye | O | Kr | Ir | Ya | Vl | Ma |
Incnis Mrsi’s colors: | Ka | Mo | Ye | O | Kr | Ir | Ya | Vl | Ma |
- Incnis Mrsi (talk) 21:21, 7 June 2010 (UTC)
- How about the colors used by this image (from the Time in Russia article)? They are not as harsh on the eyes, look soft yet have a good contrast, and use no "unusual" colors (such as brown for Moscow Oblast).—Ëzhiki (Igels Hérissonovich Ïzhakoff-Amursky) • (yo?); June 7, 2010; 21:39 (UTC)
- May be it is a good deal (green for MSK corresponds to the image in {{Time zones of Europe}}, but a complete list of 9 colors should be negotiated before uploading a new version. Could you propose 9 different colors? I prefer to avoid duplicates. Incnis Mrsi (talk) 22:25, 7 June 2010 (UTC)

- (Incnis Mrsi’s colors) OK X-romix (talk) 07:48, 8 June 2010 (UTC)
- (Ëzhiki) ok, soft http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Tz_map_russia2009r_efeledotnet.png is good colors too X-romix (talk) 07:48, 8 June 2010 (UTC)
- Incnis Mrsi’s colours look good but softer shades would be preferred. If you pick, and agree on, colours for the two defunct time zones as well then I will update both maps. Also remember that updating the colours in the map(s) means going to all the different language versions of wikipedia which uses the map(s) and updating their legends. /Lokal_Profil 15:49, 8 June 2010 (UTC)
- OK, yet two palettes, with soft colors:

Former Incnis Mrsi with decreased saturation (modified Lokal Profil): |
Ka | Mo | Ye | O | Kr | Ir | Ya | Vl | Ma |
Similar to File:Tz map russia2009r efeledotnet.png but disambiguated: |
Ka | Mo | Ye | O | Kr | Ir | Ya | Vl | Ma |
- Sure, I will change legends in all wikipedias. But I don’t realize yet Lokal Profil’s comment about defunct timezones. Should we reserve yet two colors for them? Incnis Mrsi (talk) 12:35, 10 June 2010 (UTC)
- If you change colours on the map then you must change them in all wiki's at a time. Be carefully next time with such a wide-used files.--Orange-kun (talk) 17:04, 24 July 2010 (UTC)
I have updated map. Increased contrast and replacing pink (it looks not healthy) to split it with violet with colour from one of previous versions.
Ka | Mo | Ye | O | Kr | Ir | Ya | Vl | Ma |

- First, your table does not reflect properly your changes in [1] — colors of Yakutsk differ. My removal of the brown color from Moscow time zone was a consensual decision which you try to overturn without any explanations. I will revert your changes of colors unless you fix this mistake in the nearest future. Also note that most users apparently dislike excessively saturated colors like Ya which you uploaded to Commons. Incnis Mrsi (talk) 19:39, 24 July 2010 (UTC)
- I've increased brightness of colours to avoid old-paper feeling. For example I used different yellow and red colours. Blue colour which you're talking about wasn't touched by the way. Red is OK now, I agree with current version. My main request to change Krasnoyarsk Timezone from pink was satisfied.--Orange-kun (talk) 15:38, 25 July 2010 (UTC)

Errors
editOn 2010-10-27, someone anonymous made 4 edits that have left the table of time zones in an incorrect state. It looks as if those changes should be reverted, but I leave this work to someone who can check if those changes had some value despite their errors. -- Justinbb (talk) 05:13, 1 November 2010 (UTC)
- The edits weren't so much incorrect as they were confused. It seems the anon wanted to show where the abolished time zones were merged into, and the UTCs showed the new offsets for the federal subjects. Trouble is, just because Samara Oblast now uses Moscow Time does not mean that Samara Time was shifted to UTS+03. Samara Time is still at UTC+04; it's just no federal subject uses that zone any more. Same goes for Kamchatka Time.
- I have reverted the changes.—Ëzhiki (Igels Hérissonovich Ïzhakoff-Amursky) • (yo?); November 1, 2010; 14:53 (UTC)
Kaliningrad abbreviated in KALT, another is USZ1
editAbbreviated it KALT, otherwise it’ll end up in USZ1.
KALT/USZ1 is used for Kaliningrad Time.
