2015 data available

edit

Just to note that the ONS has released 2015 data, available here. I would update the template myself, but I'm not sure how to do so efficiently. Cordless Larry (talk) 20:08, 6 July 2016 (UTC)Reply

Please update as mid-year 2020 data is now out from ons superseding mid-2019 values. Also the Northamptonshire districts are out of date following changes on April 1st, 2021. 81.111.109.90 (talk) 23:42, 25 June 2021 (UTC)Reply

Not done: it's not clear what changes you want to be made. Please mention the specific changes in a "change X to Y" format and provide a reliable source if appropriate. ScottishFinnishRadish (talk) 00:01, 26 June 2021 (UTC)Reply

Please update the current table for estimates mid-2019 with the one below for mid-2020 estimates taken from ons, thanks:

Not done for now: Please implement the changes in the template's sandbox: Template:English district population/sandbox instead of pasting the raw data onto this talkpage. Elli (talk | contribs) 22:53, 17 September 2021 (UTC)Reply
Note that the related templates will need updating at the same time. Keith D (talk) 10:31, 18 September 2021 (UTC)Reply

2021 estimates available (based on 2021 Census)

edit

The ONS has released 'rounded' population figures as of the 2021 Census. See Population and household estimates, England and Wales: Census 2021. Does anyone have a ready-rolled method to transfer the ONS spreadsheet into Wikipedia? --John Maynard Friedman (talk) 16:50, 29 June 2022 (UTC)Reply

NB that NOMISWEB has yet to be updated: I suspect that they are waiting for the precise figures. --John Maynard Friedman (talk) 16:52, 29 June 2022 (UTC)Reply
It appears that Wikipedia is making it as hard as possible for even veteran editors to update articles based on the 2021 census by doing some silly and complex Alice down the rabbit hole way of things. And the stupid silly eggheads on here wonder why the number of editors is falling when they pull stunts like this. Go figure, haha! Sirhissofloxley (talk) 23:00, 1 July 2022 (UTC)Reply
I guess that we should wait until we get a proper release before using the data as this release is rounded. There is no hurry to update to 2021. Keith D (talk) 01:21, 2 July 2022 (UTC)Reply
Since the release is by local authority (UA, County Council) and not yet parish or town, surely an estimate that is correct to the nearest 100 is far more useful than the "wet finger in the air" estimates of previous years that currently adorn our articles? --John Maynard Friedman (talk) 16:00, 5 July 2022 (UTC)Reply
My concerns are not when we amend things but by how hard it is. I've been editing Wikipedia for 16 years and created over 200 articles yet I have no idea how this weird template thing works. I can understand linking individual districts and boroughs to a main page but it appears that the vast majority of people can't even see the raw data behind a list of district and borough table. That's not right. That being said I know Keith D is a very good editor and I value his input so am willing to learn. Sirhissofloxley (talk) 21:39, 5 July 2022 (UTC)Reply

@Dgp4004: You have done a lot of updating lately, thanks. Would you mind investigating the following issues when you have time. On most of the following, searching for convert will show an error such as [convert: needs a number]. Presumably some codes are missing.

Thanks for the heads up @Johnuniq. I have fixed this. Dgp4004 (talk) 08:57, 16 July 2024 (UTC)Reply

Mid-2023 data

edit

For those interested, the ONS has got itself all in a muddle as usual so we won't get UK-wide local authority population data until 2025. Their response to a query I submitted regarding the mid-2023 release:

'The limited scope of this release reflects that data for the whole of the UK at local authority level was not available for mid-2023 as estimates for Northern Ireland were not available.

Further, we are expecting amendments to estimates for Scotland for 2011 to 2022 reflecting changes to international migration and revision to estimates for England and Wales for 2023 for the same reason. A dataset for the whole of UK, at local authority level will be available in 2025.'
