City vs. town

Why is Big Sandy listed as a town, yet East Mountain as a city, when Big Sandy has twice the population? Is it based on some legal designation, the official name, or what? Lawikitejana (talk) 12:14, 28 June 2010 (UTC)

Classification of US municipalities on Wikipedia, both in Texas and in the other 49 states, is always based on legal designations. Nyttend (talk) 20:59, 28 June 2010 (UTC)
