Template:Uw-thumb1 → Template talk:Uw-thumbininfobox – With the deletion of Template:Uw-thumb2 at at TfD this week, this series of escalating warnings has been whittled away from four down to just this one. There is agreement that, for obvious reasons, adding thumbnails to an infobox should not escalate to a block (Who thought this was a courteous way to treat new users? It lacks all common sense.).

I decided not to nominate Uw-thumb1 for deletion because this template could easily be turned into a useful single-issue notice with a few minor edits. Changing the name seems fine to me to disambiguate from the other uw-thumb template. CapitalSasha ~ talk 13:18, 4 June 2021 (UTC)

This should be nominated for deletion and be deleted. Because just like Uw-thumb2, what is the purpose of warning about thumbnails in infoboxes? Adding thumbnails doesn't count as vandalism. --WikiCleanerMan (talk) 13:52, 4 June 2021 (UTC)

I'm fine with deleting it too. Some very unscientific sampling of this search seems to indicate that the vast majority of usages of this template have been by Zackmann08 so maybe they would like to chime in. CapitalSasha ~ talk 17:47, 4 June 2021 (UTC)

Asartea, Kusma, Zackmann08, CapitalSasha, KGirlTrucker81, Schierbecker, it should be noted that Template:Uw-thumb isn't used at all for the purpose it was created. As 67.70.27.180 mentioned in the Tfd for this template and for the level 2 template that Uw-thumb is also incompatible as it isn't a warning template for thumbnails but rather about formatting of thumbnails. Should we try a Tfd renominating this for deletion and Uw-thumb? I think we can get a consensus to delete both. --WikiCleanerMan (talk) 17:24, 13 June 2021 (UTC)

@WikiCleanerMan, as it just has been kept at TfD, I don't think it should be nominated again. Instead, perhaps it should be renamed. In any case, if this is the standard message to use, it should be clearly stated at Category:Pages using infoboxes with thumbnail images (or at least its talk page) what should be done. (Might be useful to ask the people working on that category for their opinion). —Kusma (talk) 18:42, 13 June 2021 (UTC)

Kusma, I don't think anybody will reply as that talk page hasn't been edited since 2016. I think we should merge this template with Uw-thumb or at least nominate Uw-thumb for deletion as that template isn't used as much for its purpose. --WikiCleanerMan (talk) 23:16, 17 June 2021 (UTC)

The category is well in use (it gets filled by newbies and emptied by others on a regular basis) so a note on the category page might attract the people working in this area. The talk page may be dead, though. —Kusma (talk) 08:26, 25 June 2021 (UTC)
