editI think there should be a section on Society in the template. In paarticular, there should be a place to hang Black market in wartime France. 11:08, 30 July 2023 (UTC) — Preceding unsigned comment added by Rfl0216 (talk • contribs)
- Couldn't agree more. In fact, I came here to say exactly this, and found that you already did. The problem is, it would be awkward to have a group name for just one link, and surely there must be other articles we could place there. But which? Mathglot (talk) 08:08, 1 September 2023 (UTC)
- Indeed. Black market in wartime France is definitely about French society in the period. Or the economy more specifically perhaps. Others -- the ones that are coming to mind are subsets of the black market, I think, and may be too granular. Maybe the Service de travail obligatoire. Maquis and FFI etc were players in the society in the period, although not of the Vichy regime, so forgive me, but is the template supposed to represent the organization that was the Vichy administration, or the period of the occupation in France? - Yes, the economy is another good one. Your title question is a good one, and I guess up to now, it's been mostly about the French State in all its ramifications, but I think it's legit to include opposition to it, impact on people (or "Society"), Economy, and so on. Where the line defining the scope clearly ends, is that since Vichy is a government (or period) and not a country, we obviously couldn't have "Geography of Vichy", "Climate of Vichy", and so on. If we called the main label on the left "Opposition", and then we could include Housewives' demonstrations and French Resistance, and maybe others, but that would leave out STO, Economy, Black market, etc. What about a group label, "Impact and opposition"? That could maybe encompass societal issues as well. Mathglot (talk) 01:36, 4 September 2023 (UTC)
