Compare

edit

Compare this with Template:Viking Invasion of England. I think that is more comprehensive; has more of the battles. But doesn't have all the people. Also, I'm not too excited about the Etymology "List of Places." I think most of those should go.

Anyway, they should probably be compared, IMO. Student7 (talk) 21:59, 27 February 2019 (UTC)Reply

Merge?

edit

@Primefac: Following Wikipedia:Templates_for_discussion/Log/2019_June_5#Template:Viking_Invasion_of_England, isn't rather Template:Viking Invasion of England due to be merge here with Template:Norse activity in the British Isles, than the other way around? PPEMES (talk) 19:16, 25 June 2019 (UTC)Reply

I read the only "vote" as indicating a preference for the name to be at "Viking Invasion". If I misread it or it makes more sense to merge everything here, go for it; there was clearly not a lot of opposition to the merger (or really any preference for anything). Thanks. Updated infoboxes accordingly. PPEMES (talk) 12:12, 26 June 2019 (UTC)Reply
I've decided to keep the name here as the scope is slightly larger, but I would not object if anyone went ahead and changed it. --Trialpears (talk) 23:19, 31 July 2019 (UTC)Reply

Template:Norse activity in the British IslesTemplate:Viking activity in the British Isles – The usual term for the Scandinavian invaders is Vikings not Norse. The Oxford Illustrated History of the Vikings has a chapter by Simon Keynes with the title 'The Vikings in England, c. 970-1016'. Krakkos has pointed out many other examples at Talk:Norsemen/Archive 1#The common name for the Old Norse-speaking peoples of Viking Age. The word Norsemen is occasionally used as a synomyn for Vikings, but more often specifically for Norwegian rather than Danish Vikings. The articles and templates which use the term Norse for Viking should be changed to avoid confusion. The previous move to the current name was carried through with no discussion. I noticed that the links for the battles of Chippenham, and York currently lead to subsections within the articles for those places. Standalone articles for these - Battle of Chippenham and Battle of York (867) - have recently been created for these. I'm not sure how best to update templates, or if there is any particular process, but please could these be updated?

At the same time, if the battles are meant to be in chronological order, should the battle of Chippenham appear before the battle of Cynwit?--CSJJ104 (talk) 11:36, 18 August 2020 (UTC)Reply

All done. Thanks for pointing these out. Dudley Miles (talk) 12:46, 18 August 2020 (UTC)Reply
