Highways Suggestion

edit

What is meant by "over highway international"? Shouldn't this be simply "over highway" or "over national highway" if you want to restrict it to major roads?--Shantavira|feed me 12:57, 5 January 2014 (UTC)Reply

Many countries use   to denote an expressway (hence “international”), whereas   is the British standard for motorway. Useddenim (talk) 23:08, 5 January 2014 (UTC)Reply

Missing symbols

edit

There seem to be quite a few symbols missing, see for example Template:TandM Canal Route Map. How do we figure out what they mean?--Shantavira|feed me 13:17, 5 January 2014 (UTC)Reply

The diagram displays correctly. Try purging your browser’s cache and reloading the page. Useddenim (talk) 23:08, 5 January 2014 (UTC)Reply

I spotted a missing symbol on the map for the Mersey and Irwell Navigation. The missing symbol is a double-headed red arrow. Maybe it means the upper limit of tidal influence. Oaklandguy (talk) 01:07, 21 May 2016 (UTC)Reply

It's not missing. It's actually   (POINTERu) adjacent to  (POINTERd). As to what it means, your guess is as good as mine. Useddenim (talk) 13:15, 21 May 2016 (UTC)Reply

Locks - which side is up?

edit

Hi, for the less waterways-savvy people, could someone please amend the legent of locks   (uLock3) and related structures to say whether they point upwards or downwards? Thanks! Pbro (talk) 16:17, 29 June 2016 (UTC)Reply

Locks I believe are placed so that the point is facing into the flow of the water, thus ensuring that they stay closed.Deonyi (talk) 12:07, 3 April 2019 (UTC)Reply

weir icon is facing the wrong way?

edit
Key to symbols
Ocean
or sea

Feeder reservoir

Start/end of navigable section

Weir

White water pool

Reservoir

Large reservoir

judging by the direction of the dams on the reservoir and large reservoir, the direction of water flow should be moving up from the perspective of the reader. the pointy parts of the weir should be going with the flow, but instead they are going against the flow. should the weir icon be flipped so the pointy parts go up instead of down from the perspective of the reader? The weir(and all other symbols shown on this key) can be placed in different directions depending on the weir's (or other structure/feature's) relation to the waterway. See https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/BSicon/Catalogue/watercourses for all possible symbols that can be inserted into a waterway map. Paintrayn89 (talk) 03:51, 13 June 2024 (UTC)Reply
