Template talk:Welcome123

edit

I'm not sure I like the wording in this template. May I suggest the following changes:

Rather than saying:

"I think it's very important for you to browse through some of the links below so as to become familiar with how Wikipedia works."
This sounds like I am of the opinion that the user is doing something wrong and does not know how Wikipedia works.

I would like to suggest:

"You may benefit from following some of the links below if you would like more information on Wikipedia."

I would also like to change:

"If you're already loving Wikipedia and plan on becoming a Wikipedian you might consider being "adopted" by a more experienced editor"
Surely, by registering or contributing, the user is already a Wikipedian? What more does the user need to do to become one?

To me, this would sound better:

"If you're already loving Wikipedia you might consider being "adopted" by a more experienced editor"

Minor rewrite

edit

Have not changed any context just some wording and links -

I agree with the above wording suggestions and so have changed accordingly. Also important I have removed the information about how to be Adopted - I have left the link to WP:ADOPT.

The reason for this is simple - unless new user go to WP:ADOPT and read a little they will not know what adoption is about. So instead of telling them here how to get adopted - force them to go to WP:ADOPT to read the information first. This gives the user more buy into the process, as well as filtering out the most lazy of new users who are unlikely to contribute much more anyway. Cheers Lethaniol 14:38, 5 January 2007 (UTC)Reply

Documentation

edit

Should there be some documentation with this template? This template is putting WelcomeMenu in the text. See User talk:Camwil -- Derek Andrews (talk) 11:14, 6 May 2008 (UTC)Reply

Is it just me...

...or are there way too many links here to be a welcoming welcome to a new user? —Ed (talkcontribs) 20:37, 11 October 2009 (UTC)Reply

Hmm.. perhaps it could be cut down a little.. what do you suggest? btw I respectfully disagree that "always fill in the edit summary field" is not an important part of the welcome message and shouldn't be bolded. -- œ 00:53, 12 October 2009 (UTC)Reply

Hi all, I've given this template's links a badly needed lick of paint, as I've always found it helpful for welcoming more proactive newcomers. You can see my changes here. I've included (or given extra emphasis to) the main reworked help pages (H:I, WP:TEA, WP:TASK), as the most important links for new users have shifted a fair bit over the last few years. I've also made a few other minor tweaks, replacing the most obsolete links. Jr8825Talk 04:01, 17 November 2020 (UTC)Reply

Looks all positive to me. We do have questions link and request link that seem redundant....we should pick one or the other.--Moxy 🍁 04:12, 17 November 2020 (UTC)Reply
I'd be inclined to choose WP:Q, as it's easier to use and most of the links at the request directory can be reached via another link on the template. Jr8825Talk 04:33, 17 November 2020 (UTC)Reply

Font size should be increased

edit

Considering that mobile devices are more popular, the small font size is atrocious. Please increase the font size to something more readable. Accessibility rules should be given more prominence than aesthetics. Venkat TL (talk) 19:08, 13 March 2022 (UTC)Reply
