Need to update redirects

{{edit protected}} Please see the sandbox for a version with the child WPs updated, the nested parameters and needs-infobox added to the template, to match the other WP templates, like for El Salvador and Costa Rica. Removing subprojects as task force

Currently there are 7 country-specific "task forces" that are part of this template. All of them are actually full-fledged WikiProjects (rather than task forces) with their own top-level project pages, and some of them have their own templates: {{WikiProject Costa Rica}}, {{WikiProject El Salvador}}, {{WikiProject Belize}}. In most cases, it makes more sense to use a country-specific template than this one. For example, Queen Elizabeth II has no relevance to Central America other than being the head of state of Belize. Also, it's non-standard to use WikiProjects as task forces. I know there are some other examples of this, but typically every WikiProject uses it's own template, even when there is a hierarchy (as recommended by the WikiProject guidelines). Would anyone object to me creating templates for the remaining projects (Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua, Panama) and removing them from this template? Kaldari (talk) 21:11, 3 January 2017 (UTC)

I've created banner templates for the remaining WikiProjects. The next step will be officially deprecate the use of the task force parameters and then have a bot migrate the existing uses of {{WikiProject Central America}} to the country specific templates where appropriate. Any interest in updating this template to modern standards?

Unlike other similar templates ({{WikiProject Africa}}, {{WikiProject Asia}} {{WikiProject Oceania}}, {{WikiProject South America}} and {{WikiProject Caribbean}}) this template does not support country parameters linking to each country's WikiProject. It would be good if you could implement this function, to establish consistency with other projects, and enable a standard look and feel to Wikipedia. I would like to standardize things using templates, but it's rather difficult when some continents / regions do things one way, while others do it another. Is there consensus for this? Not just from Wikipedia:WikiProject Central America but from each of the others that you want to include. For instance, the section immediately above this one is to the contrary. That's why I'm raising the question, to see if there is consensus. I don't know what "others" you think I wish to "include" ... I only provided links to similar templates that are already doing what I suggest we may do here. The previous discussion from over a year ago was in regards to shutting down support of Task Forces within WikiProject Central America, as each of them moved to full fledged WikiProjects of their own. What I propose is including links to the new WikiProjects, as is already done in other similar projects. This proposal does not effect just WikiProject Central America, which is only semi-active, but would be a Wikipedia-wide change, and should be considered in that context. The others are the talk pages of each of the WikiProjects that you want to pull in here (not the template talk pages, but the actual WikiProject talk pages). You don't name any of them; but let's assume that you want to add a country parameter for Guatemala - we already have a WikiProject Guatemala, so you should post a notice at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Guatemala. The same goes for each of the other existing WikiProjects that you wish to convert to a task force. A notice at each of Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Council and Wikipedia:Village pump (proposals) would also not go amiss. As for the venue of the main discussion - this page has 30 watchers; Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Central America has 42.
