Template talk:WikiProject United States

New parameter

edit

Hello @Funandtrvl! So I found an inactive taskforce page Wikipedia:WikiProject Jewish-Americans which was, by the looks of it, abandoned mid-creation due to the creator suddenly abandoning Wikipedia. Since I have an interest in Jewish-American history and culture, I decided the page can be tidied up and added to the appropriate articles.

One issue the creator had was with parameters. I tried to add them too but I'm afraid I can't figure it out at all. If you can be so kind to help put in the |Jewish-Americans=yes and |Jewish-Americans-importance= to {{WikiProject United States}} and we can, hopefully, get this up and running. Any advice on how to spoof up and integrate the taskforce into the WP:USA would also be welcome. I tried at the talk page but I didn't get any response from anyone. Omnis Scientia (talk) 08:52, 1 June 2024 (UTC)Reply
I'm adding fully protected template, I may not be able to get to this right away, thanks! --Funandtrvl (talk) 19:07, 1 June 2024 (UTC)Reply
Thank you for the response! :) And no worries either. Omnis Scientia (talk) 19:28, 1 June 2024 (UTC)Reply
I see no difference between the present template and its sandbox. Therefore,   Not done: please make your requested changes to the template's sandbox first; see WP:TESTCASES. Please note, this is not an assurance that I will implement any proposed changes. --Redrose64 🌹 (talk) 20:11, 1 June 2024 (UTC)Reply
@Redrose64, sorry, I don't understand. Would appreciate some guidance. Thank you! Omnis Scientia (talk) 20:17, 1 June 2024 (UTC)Reply
You requested an edit. But you have not put your proposed edit into the template's sandbox, let alone demonstrated it at the testcases page. --Redrose64 🌹 (talk) 21:50, 1 June 2024 (UTC)Reply
@Redrose64, Ah alright, I see now. Thank you for your response. This is my first time requesting such an edit so I didn't know the procedure. Will do that and then return here. Omnis Scientia (talk) 21:59, 1 June 2024 (UTC)Reply
@Redrose64, hello there. I've edited the sandbox and also demonstrated it at the testcase page as you have asked. I hope I did it right. Omnis Scientia (talk) 20:29, 2 June 2024 (UTC)Reply
@Redrose64, @Funandtrvl, its been over a month. I've not gotten a response on this. Would appreciate one. Thank you. Omnis Scientia (talk) 15:18, 15 July 2024 (UTC)Reply

California and Hawaii are not listed

edit

Other states are listed but California and Hawaii aren't. They do have WikiProjects WP:HAWAII and WP:CALIFORNIA. There might be more, but at least these two aren't listed. Also I can't WP:BEBOLD, it's template editor protected. - Sebbog13 (talk) 14:46, 21 July 2024 (UTC)Reply

Of the 26 US-State parameters in the /doc (25+DC), 23 have associated WikiProject templates which are subst'd wrappers for {{WPUS}} (e.g. {{WP Arkansas}}), and only 3 are not ({{WP Arizona}}, {{WP Indiana}}, {{WP Ohio}}). I don't know why those 3 exceptions exist, but the clear pattern/trend is to reserve {{WPUS}} params to subst'd states.   ~ Tom.Reding (talkdgaf)  18:04, 21 July 2024 (UTC)Reply
Some years ago, there was a decision that a state should only have params in WikiProject United States if, and only if, it didn't have it's own state WikiProject banner. Since {{WikiProject California}} and {{WikiProject Hawaii}} exist, there should not be |CA= or |HI= in {{WikiProject United States}}. --Redrose64 🌹 (talk) 20:44, 21 July 2024 (UTC)Reply

Something is wrong again

edit

Instead of rendering the template page, when arriving on the subjectpage, it produces an error message

The time allocated for running scripts has expired. The time allocated for running scripts has expired.

Please see my previous post on the matter, timed at 22:11, 27 June 2024 (UTC). --Redrose64 🌹 (talk) 18:05, 22 July 2024 (UTC)Reply
Per that, link to Wikipedia:Village pump (technical)/Archive 213#The time allocated for running scripts has expired, which itself says do a WP:PURGE -- 65.92.247.96 (talk) 22:16, 22 July 2024 (UTC)Reply

That's no good. You need to purge the page where you actually see the red error messages. --Redrose64 🌹 (talk) 07:20, 23 July 2024 (UTC)Reply
That's the page where I saw the red error message. I was reading the template page -- 65.92.247.96 (talk) 05:41, 24 July 2024 (UTC)Reply

I see Primefac has added includeonly to the template which has fixed the problem of scripts timing out but has removed other functionality. We need to look at why this is happening and resolve that. The Module:WikiProject banner/templatepage includes a number of checks (such as whether categories exist, etc.) and it is possible we need to reduce these. But with 95 task forces, this template is always going to be an outlier — Martin (MSGJ · talk) 07:45, 23 August 2024 (UTC)Reply

I think it not necessary to put a prominent notice on all these transclusions. As long as Template:WikiProject Barack Obama is tagged, that should be fine — Martin (MSGJ · talk) 08:19, 20 August 2024 (UTC)Reply
