Separating the Duke and Duchess's templates?
editI started a discussion at Talk:Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge#Separating the Duke and Duchess's navboxes., regarding the potential separation of William and Catherine's navboxes. Please see the discussion there and weigh in if you have an opinion. Thanks! --Zoeydahling (talk) 22:55, 23 September 2012 (UTC)
Inclusion criteria for film and television
editHello,
I have been working on a draft article on the Prince of Wales's film and television depictions (Permalink to the most recent revision as of this edit). Based on the research I have done outside of Wikipedia, I have some concerns regarding the popular cultural depictions presented in this navigation template.
What are the inclusion criteria for adding film and television representation of the Prince of Wales? For example, I note that "Freemium Isn't Free" is mentioned as an example of the Prince of Wales in popular culture. However, this "example" is not a portrayal of him per se, but rather of the Prince of Canada, a character inspired by him. Moreover, the only arguably reliable source that I could find even remotely connecting the Prince of Wales and the Prince of Canada came from the Daily Mirror. Even then, as of my post, there is no Wikipedia consensus on the reliability of the Daily Mirror (Permalink to this reliability citation).
In contrast, neither King Charles III (film) nor King Charles III (play) are mentioned in this template, even though the depiction of the Prince of Wales in both is an "explicit" one. Moreover, his portrayal in the film adaptation of King Charles III have been the subject of critics' opinion in multiple publications (e.g. this piece from The Guardian and this one from Vulture). The same cannot be said for the Prince of Wales's "depiction" in "Freemium Isn't Free", as I have been unable to find any similar pieces as of this post.
I would like for these inclusion criteria to be explicitly defined in this section, not only because it will allow for the scope of the draft article mentioned above to be better defined by editors, but more importantly, so that Wikipedia readers will have an as accurate as possible understanding of the Prince of Wales's cultural impact.
P.S. I also would like to know the rationale behind The Queen and her biological children not being mentioned in the Prince of Wales's navigation template. However, for now, I would like the discussion to focus on my concerns regarding his media depictions.
Thank you,

- I don't think the scope of the draft can be based on the scope of this template. After all, a template needs to be more succinct or narrowly constructed compared to an article. Which is why for example neither King Charles III (film) nor King Charles III (play) are listed here. In both of them the central character is Charles. I wouldn't be opposed to including those two here or in Camilla, Harry, or Catherine's templates if their characters did indeed form a large part of the story.
- This might also sound a little bit off topic but I wonder whether the draft will be covering William's appearances in documentaries or it will solely focus on fictional portrayals, because if it's the latter "Cultural depictions of William, Prince of Wales" could be a more appropriate title (see Category:Cultural depictions of British monarchs for similar examples).
- I don' think Camilla's children play any roles in either William or Harry's lives. They have rarely been seen together. As for Camilla, yes she's technically their stepmother but there is again no evidence that they view Camilla as a stepparent or motherly figure (who usually is a figure that actually raises a person in the absence of one's parent). She's simply their father's wife and that's what has been reported by biographers to be the nature of the relationship. Keivan.fTalk 06:28, 29 July 2024 (UTC)
- Thank you for the response. It seems to me that the inclusion criteria is whether or not William or the character inspired by him was a central figure in the work in question (Please let me know if this is a misunderstanding). With respect to the question about the draft, there is coverage of William's appearances (Permalink; scroll to the paragraph starting with "Additionally, in 2017") in the documentaries Diana, Our Mother: Her Life and Legacy and Diana, 7 Days. Coverage of his other documentary appearances would be welcomed in the draft. AndrewPeterT (talk) (contribs) 01:57, 2 August 2024 (UTC)
