Biography

Early life and karting

edit

Bábíčková was born on 26 March 2003 in Vracov, Czech Republic. From the age of three, she competed in gymnastics.[1] Bábíčková began karting from the age of six, initially only on weekends with the encouragement of her parents in order to allow her to learn to drive; she subsequently took up karting full-time instead of gymnastics.[1] Bábíčková attended school at the prestigious Open Gate School in Prague, although she did not complete her studies, instead choosing to focus on her developing karting career.[1] She has two sisters (Eliška and Petra Bábíčková) and one brother (Zdeněk Bábíček), all three of whom also compete in karting.[2]

Her family operate Bábíček Vacenovský, a winery in the Moravia region of Czechia.[3]

Junior formulae

edit

From 31 January 2022 to 4 February 2022, Bábíčková competed in a W Series test in Arizona, United States along with 14 other prospective drivers to gain admission into the W Series – a Formula Regional championship solely for women.[4] She then progressed to the official pre-season test in Barcelona on 2–4 March along with 11 other potential drivers and 9 automatic qualifiers from the previous W Series season.[5] On 22 March 2022, Bábíčková was confirmed to compete in the 2022 W Series season, joining the Puma commercial entrant alongside Emma Kimiläinen.[6] The only driver in the history of W Series to have no car racing experience prior to their début, the Czech made her first starts in Miami; where she finished 13th in the first race following a slew of penalties for her competitors, followed by a 16th-place finish in the second race having required a pit-stop for a broken front wing. Over the subsequent four races in Europe, Bábíčková managed a best race finish of 12th at Silverstone.[7]

In September 2022, Bábíčková was entered in a fourth G4 Racing car in the 2022 Formula Regional European Championship event at the Red Bull Ring.[8] Under a safety car start in the first race of the weekend, she collided with team-mate Gillian Henrion whilst avoiding a spun car and suffered a spinal injury. Bábíčková was withdrawn from the remainder of the event as well as the following W Series round in Singapore and a prospective FIA Formula 3 Championship test, and has not raced since despite making a full recovery.[9]
