The Claremont Murders is an Australian television drama series for the Seven Network, released April 10 2023. Produced by Peter Andrikidis, Jamie Hilton and Kerrie Mainwaring, the series follows the investigation of how the Western Australian police caught a serial killer, the team that never let the case go and the news reporter who followed the story from day one.[1] The two-part series was based on the Claremont serial killings.

Plot

When three young women go missing in Claremont, Western Australia, the police launch a massive investigation to find the killer, as the years go by, the police who investigate their disappearances and murders must contend with a public demanding answers, grieving families and the media journalist who from day one reported on the case and a taskforce being led to find the killer, the 25 year hunt to find him with advances to police technology the one piece of evidence they needed can finally put away a murderer.[2]

The series was filmed in Western Australia and was set to air in 2022 but was pushed back until the following year.[5]

Reception

Mark Naglazas of WAtoday said the series was "too tasteful" for those who regularly watch crime serials but was too close to home for those who were living in the nightmare.[9]

John Mangan of The Sydney Morning Herald rated the series 312 stars, saying that the series was a troubling account of real events, the focus was on the grief struck parents of the victims to hold the story together.[10]

The father of one of the victims Denis Glennon labelled the series as unnecessary and insensitive, he said the series also served no value to the public, he further revealed that during the early days of the investigation into his daughters death caused him immense pain and grief.[11]
