Life and career

edit

Peranakan family born, as a boy, Petcharat realized she was a transgender woman. In front of her parents, however, she had to hide her identity and was forced to present as male. She did not want her genitals, so at the age of 17, she underwent gender affirming surgery. Since then, she has said that she feels as if she has been reborn.[2] She completed her studies in the Faculty of Law at Assumption University and is currently pursuing a degree in molecular genetics and genetic engineering at Mahidol University.[4]

She is an advocate for the LGBTQ+ community and openly shares her personal journey, including her gender-affirming surgery. In 2013, she actively participated in parliamentary discussions in Thailand, advocating for the legalization of same-sex marriage. Furthermore, she collaborated with fellow transgender celebrities in a Pantene advertisement, aiming to promote transgender visibility and raise awareness about the transgender community.[4]

At age 19, Petcharat won the Miss Tiffany's 2004 and Miss International Queen 2004.[5] She is currently working as a model for esteemed brands including Off-White, Cartier, and Louis Vuitton. In addition to her successful modeling career, Petcharat has also appeared in several films over the years, including notable Hong Kong blockbusters.[4]

In 2014, Poyd starred in The White Storm a crime action film directed and produced by Benny Chan. The movie focuses on a large-scale drug bust involving the Hong Kong police and the Thai mafia, with Poyd playing the role of a Thai drug dealer. In 2015, Poyd took on the role of a mafia boss in the action comedy film From Vegas to Macau II which starred Hong Kong actors Chow Yun-fat, Carina Lau and Shawn Yue.[6]

Presently, she serves as the managing director of Biomtpharma, her own laboratory and supplement manufacturing company.[4]

Personal life

edit

On 1 March 2023, Poyd married Banlu Hongyok, a businessman whose family has a longstanding connection to Phuket's tin industry. The family's roots can be traced back to Tan Jin Nguan, a Chinese immigrant who played a pivotal role in initiating tin mining in the province. Tan Jin Nguan's contributions were acknowledged by bestowing upon him the esteemed royal surname "Hong Yok". During their wedding ceremony on the island of Phuket, Poyd donned traditional Peranakan ensembles, reflecting the style that originated with the early Chinese migrants. The attire was valued at US$580,000. Poyd and Oak have been acquainted for a remarkable 20 years, with Oak being the brother of Poyd's closest friend.[7]
