Tsevi Mazeh (born 1946) is an Israeli astrophysicist. He is a professor of astrophysics at Tel Aviv University.[1]

Biography

Tsevi Mazeh was born in Jerusalem. His mother immigrated from Poland before the war and his father came from Bialystok to study at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem.[2]

Scientific career

He is president of the Institute of Astronomy at Tel Aviv University. He specializes in exoplanet research. He is co-discoverer of HD 114762 b, the first substellar mass object (the status of a planet or brown dwarf remains uncertain) known outside the Solar System. In2012, Mazeh announced via NASA's Kepler spaceship his team had discovered a pair of planets revolving around a binary star system, reportedly "the first multiple planet arrangement in such a star system."[3]

Awards and recognition

Mazeh won the Weizmann Prize for Research in the Exact Sciences in 2009.[4]

Mazeh won the Israel Prize for physics research in 2024.[5]
