Critical reception
editWriting for Pitchfork, Andy Beta scored this album and 1978's Fire on Ice a 5.5 out of 10, with praise for Callier's vocals on this recording proving that "he could've been a distinct R&B personality had the breaks gone his way".[1] The editorial staff of AllMusic Guide scored this album four out of five stars, with reviewer Thom Jurek declaring it "easily Terry Callier's most underrated album" after the "miss" that was Fire on Ice.[3]
