udhcpc is a very small DHCP client program geared towards embedded systems.[1] The letters are an abbreviation for Micro - DHCP - Client (μDHCPc).[2] The program tries to be fully functional and RFC 2131 compliant.[3]

udhcpc was originally developed in 1999 by Matthew Ramsay and Christ Trew[4] under the GNU GPLv2 licence.[5] It was added to BusyBox on 21 August 2002[6] and first released as a part of such in 0.60.4[7] on 18 September 2002.[8][9] The package was marked as unmaintained on 26 October 2009,[10] suggesting to those who wanted a standalone package to use BusyBox with all other applets disabled.
