Spectre Divide is a tactical shooter video game developed and published by Mountaintop Studio. The game initially released for Microsoft Windows with console coming later[2][3]. The game is free-to-play and live service[4].[5]
Gameplay
editSpectre Divide will be a 3v3 player-versus-player, first to eight rounds[4], first-person tactical shooter title. The core game mechanic, "Duality", allows the player to control two bodies, known as a "spectre". The player can swap to their spectre at any time and relocate it by throwing the "puck" to a new location. The player can choose a "sponsor", out of the 8 currently available, to use its three abilities in-game. Zones in-game, called "fast recall zones", speed up spectre transfers. Spectre Divide will have an economy system similar to that of Valorant.[6][4][7][3]

Spectre Divide is developed and published by Mountaintop Studio. Nate Mitchell and Lee Horn founded Mountaintop Studio, raising $30 million dollars, with the goal of making a "small team format" inspired tactical shooter. The pair gathered a team of 70 developers and the gaming influencer Shroud for help in game design. The studio took two years creating the "Duality" mechanic with constant playtesting and prototyping. In total, the studio spent four years developing Spectre Divide with their beta test opening to the public on August 13, 2024, at 9 AM PT and ending at August 21, 2024, at 6 PM PT[8].[4]
Spectre Divide officially released on September 3, 2024, at 9 AM PT.[9][2]

Spectre Divide has been compared to Riot Games's Valorant, with its player abilities, and Valve's Counter-Strike 2, with its bomb and economy system.[5] The game is notable for enlisting Shroud to help design the games mechanics.[4]
Shortly after release, Spectre Divide received criticism for their pricing on skins, specifically with a bundle priced at $90, with PC Gamer writing: "In Valorant, it's possible to buy individual skins from a bundle for a lower price, but Spectre's bundles are currently all or nothing".[9][6]Following the criticism, Mountaintop Studio reduced the price of the skins by 17% to 25%.[11]
